I've seen people push the 480's past 1.138v but on afterburner it won't let me. on youtube i see people a 1.21v with a little more to go. my temps are pretty good <80c under folding load. do they have a different bios or is there an option I'm not seeing?

I've seen some custom bios for the 480 with the upper limit to 1.15v. Above that you may need physical modification of the board, but not really sure, so don't quote me on this  .

Try to install Evga's Eleet program and see how much you can give to your card. I know you can give 1.150 from that.

    System:  2600K - MSI P67A GD80 - G.Skill Ares Blue 4x4Gb 1600 - MSI GTX 970 Gaming 4GB  - 120Gb Intel 530, 1Tb WD, 3Tb Seagate - Corsair HX850W - Creative Sound Blaster Z - LG DVD-RW - Windows 10 Pro 64 - CM 932 Advanced - Edifier S530D - Dell U2412M (1200p)

    Watercooling loop: XSPC Raystorm - EK-FC970 GTX TF5 -  Alphacool D5 with EK X-Top v2 - XSPC reservoir - Lamptron FC2 - 2x Swiftech 360 QP

Yeah, my GTX 480 SC that I bought early-on allows 1150mV in MSI and nVidia Inspector.  Though as said, Eleet should let you go a lot higher if you have the cooling.

eleet won't let me hit apply with 1.150v, it keep going back to 1.138

    Download this bios:
    http://www.tunerspotter.com/bios/OVEVGA480.rar

    Then download this flashing utility:
    http://www.techpowerup.co...1%20for%20Windows.html

Next, you need to make a folder on your C drive called NVFLASH just open the C Drive and put it right on top, don't put it in any other file or folder.

Then unzip the contents of the nvflash.zip into the folder you just created.

Next, unzip the bios from the OVEVGA480 rar file into the NVFLASH folder you created.

Now open your command prompt by going to your start bar on your desktop and in the "search" box type "CMD" and you'll see the command prompt window open.

Then type CD/NVFLASH and press enter.

Now type nvflash -4 -5 -6 ovevga480.rom then press enter

Now just follow the instructions to flash the card with the GTX480 voltage unlocked bios.

After you've flashed the bios, you may need to reinstall your video card drivers. And then in Afterburner you'll be able to apply 1.212v to the card.

As long as you are unable to flash it back.

    Thanks for the tutorial Craptacular.

I was under the impression modifying the BIOS voids EVGA warranty?  Might be something to consider.  I could be wrong though.

Also, do you know how safe it is to go past 1.15v?  I mean as long as you keep it cooled?  I got some new cooling for my GTX 480 and never see it go past 65-70c in games at 1.15v and not past 75c in furmark.

    Thanks again.

    *EDIT*

I see the warranty thing was covered while I was typing.  So if you flash is back it's fine huh?  Most problems though I would think you can't flash it back.  My first 480 went up in smoke literally.  I think a VREG died and that was under 1.15v so I just want to be cautious.

The voltage regulation and phasing on the GTX480 is much more robust than what is found on the GTX580. In fact modders and overclockers were cutting dead GTX480s in half to make a Frankenstein monster using the GTX480s power circuitry with a GTX580 in order to be able to feed the GPU enough voltage because the stock circuitry on the GTX580 couldn't handle the amount of voltage they were pushing to it and they were killing cards.

But yes, flashing a modified bios will void your warranty if you kill the card and can't flash the stock bios back to it before you RMA it.

That's quite interesting about the volt reg on the 480.  Did they just cut it out of the 580 to save money on components?
