BIOS 83 Updates:
  • Updates CPU Microcode
  • Improved CPU Support

BIOS updating can be accomplished VIA the below methods:

CD/DVD Installation - Recommended installation method
  • Download the correct .iso file below for your motherboard:
         141-GT-E770 - EVGA X58 Classified3
         132-GT-E768 - EVGA X58 FTW3
         131-GT-E767 - EVGA X58 SLI3
  • Use a CD Burning software to burn the .iso image onto a blank CD (Nero, Alochol 120%, MagicISO etc.)
  • After it has burned, insert CD and restart the machine, go into the BIOS and load defaults, save and exit
  • Now set the CD Drive as the primary boot device, or press escape while the system is booting to select CD as the bootable device.
  • After flash remove the CD, and power off PC Completely.
  • Turn on the PC and load defaults in BIOS

USB Flash Drive Installation - Alternate installation method
  • Download the correct .bin file below for your motherboard:
         141-GT-E770 - EVGA X58 Classified3
         132-GT-E768 - EVGA X58 FTW3
         131-GT-E767 - EVGA X58 SLI3
  • Visit this thread and follow the installation instructions. (thanks RaffieKol).

    Nice, thanks!
So is this basically some extra compatibility for i7 990x and i7 995x? Or are there some other fixes / improvements we should be aware of?

The RAID rom was updated with the last BIOS. This is mainly updated micro code for new CPU's

Any reason to update to 83 over 82?  i7 950 does it add anything for OCing or other options aside from the microcode?

Can we have someone look into why Turbo Performance Mode under CPU features is locked Enabled?  Even when other settings override the "Turbo Mode" Enabled, it still wants to lock memory to 2:8 and CPU multiplier 25 is still unusable.  The issue has been there for a few BIOSes, at least since 78.

When I have time I can release modded versions of the BIOS with updated ROMs.  However, as I no longer have my E759 board I will have to have somebody else test the modifications

As the OP said, this is only for the SLI3, FTW3, and Classy3; your E760 not included, and he said the rest will be supported soon.

    Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB.
See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve.

Odd, EVGA normally steps their game up and has support for a wider range but I can wait like you said has it won't be to long of a turn around time....

Yes, but how about the latest (or at least a newer ) RAID ROM?

I see two ROMs newer than 10.5.0.774 on Station-Drivers, and I believe there are at least two more newer than those...

That's what I was getting at with my question....  As usual EVGA is way behind on the update, but also as usual Dejanh steps up to the plate to take care of us....

    Thanks Jacob!

    1. Are we going to see the voltage throttle down when using manual Vcore and Speedstep on the Classified boards?

    2. Also the boot priority fix, I have an external hard drive connected to the back eSATA port and when ever boot with it on/off it doesnt save so it tries to always boot to the eSATA this was not a problem with BIOS 78

    3. And of course any plans on updating the RAID ROMS in the future or is 10.5.0.774 going to be the last?

    Thanks

This, and fixing HPET causing DPC latency to go from 10-20 to 100-200 would be very welcome. I've had these two issues since I got my E760 two years ago...

4 blocks showed write failure.  Tried it 2 times with 2 different discs.  1 represents success 0 represents failure 001001111111 whats in those blocks? its the first 2 then 4&5.
Tried again with both CD and DVD got the same results.  No adverse affects that i can find.  Linx 3dmark and games all run fine actually gained 5 whole points but no ill affects.

I actually had this happen with my E759 board.  BIOS chip was toast and I had to swap it out with another one.  It happens.

Edit: Just to clarify, I do not mean to say that the BIOS chip is toast due to a bad flash, I mean that the physical BIOS chip is faulty for some reason and cannot be programmed properly.

I actually am having the same issue with the E767 SLI3 board where I was attempting to do the recent bios update 83 and 4 errors we seen, however if I attempt to use the build 82 or 81 or 79 I have NO issues at all, I am a slight bit confused by this.  I see by Dejanh's post that it indicates a bios chip error, but I don't think I understand, I mean it completes the bios update, just several sectors are red during the bios update, can someone either tell me if this is BAD or if this is just what is supposed to happen. UGH

If other BIOS are flashing fine then the physical BIOS chip is fine, but the new BIOS image is bad.

I'm assuming the Image is bad but not in an area that matters.  I think its the microcode area for the new CPUs thats failing to write.  Since those blocks are untouched by any of the previous BIOS updates.  Blued out marked as no update in 80,81,82.  I know because i went back and flashed from 82 down to 80 just to see.   But Im back on 83 without no issues except those 4 blocks that fail to write which im assuming are microcode for the 990x and 995x and/or some other CPU i dont use.

    Re:EVGA X58 SLI3, FTW3 and Classified3 - BIOS 83 Released 2011/09/04 17:09:22 (permalink)
It popped up in the other thread for the other X58 boards.  So im assuming its a BIOS image issue.  Also if you noticed the other BIOS updates they did not touch that area.  So im also assuming it the microcode area.  possibly trying to write over data that already exists yielding a write fail.  Meaning attempting to write 920,930,940 and so on microcode to a place where it already exists instead of yielding a "no update".

I hate to see any "write fails". I'm back to 82 for now.

Downgrading your BIOS does not solve the failed write issue.  If you notice the previous BIOS do not touch that area.

Why is there no response from Evga on this?  Jacob have you tried to reproduce the problem?  What exactly is in those blocks thats failing to write?

Not looking at the failed writes makes me feel better though. I'm sure there is an explanation (such as a bad image file). I think something is up cause the problem shows up with several different boards. So how bout it EVGA? Got any ideas?
