Hello all,

I am on the lookout for a new video card to replace my GTX275 that I purchased a bit over 2 years ago. While the card is still gaming quite nice, I am beginning to see some of its age in games such as Crysis 2. With that said, I am looking at two possibilities for replacements.

Possibility No. 1: GTX 560 TI
Possibility No. 2: GTX 570

I am bit torn with regards to which is better primarily due to the numerical values associated with both cards.  The memory clock with respect to the 560TI is higher than on 570. However, with that said, the 570 does have more memory and processor cores with slightly slower core and shader clocks. I would imagine that the 570 would provide the greatest life before needing replacement. In other words, would be able to handle newer games for a slightly longer period than the 560 TI.

Generally speaking, I am assuming that upgrading to either card would provide at least a 30% performance increase over my 275.  I guess the real question is, which would be the best to upgrade to.  Is the 570 really worth the extra say $100 or so dollars?

My current rig setup is in my signature.  Furthermore, I am running two monitors on my current rig.

Monitor No. 1: 24" Asus LCD (Resolution: 1920 x 1080) - DVI
Monitor No. 2: 22" Asus LCD (Resolution: 1680 x 1050) - DVI

Thanks

This may help as it shows you the performance increase for the price difference.

If you don't mind that EVGA B-Stock items are only sold with a 90 warranty you can save yourself a few dollars by getting a re-certified card.

    Clergy,

Thanks for the response and those links.  In your opinion, would the upgrade to the 570 be worth it?  Based on what I see there, the 570 isn't necessarily that big of an upgrade, but is the overall upgrade aid in future proofing a bit?  I would have to think it does.  I was looking specifically at the Superclocked versions of both cards.

I do like the price tags on the B-stock cards, but I think I may want to full warranty.

Buying a new card for the warranty is perfectly understandable. As far as the Superclocked cards go, I don't think they're really worth it IMO unless you can get them on sale for the same price as the standard card. You can easily overclock a card yourself and get a nice gain in performance.

As far as choosing one card over the other you have to ask yourself if you feel the performance increase of the 570 is worth the extra cost in your own opinion.

One other option is you could grab a b-stock 480 for $220 and it will perform on par and in some cases even better than the 570. The only difference is the 480 runs quite hot at load.

    Clergy,

I understand your point.  I want to put a card in again and leave it for another 2-3 years before replacing it.  I am even considering at this stage of the game of just going to a 580 and being done with it.  That I have not determined as of yet.

At the moment, Newegg has the Superclocked cards right around, if not the same as the standard card.  This was the only reason for the superclock selection.

I will look into the 480 as you suggested as well.

I was picking between the 2 cards you are now. I ended up going with the GTX570 because of the best all around value. Faster with more memory for just a little more money.

I am leaning on the GTX 570 at the moment.  As you can see in my signature, I am running at the moment a 600 watt OCZ StealthStream Power supply.  Would that suffice for the 570, or should I really shoot for a bigger power supply?  I am a bit over the 600 watt criteria from what I can see, but I am not sure if I can stress the power supply a bit to compensate.

The 600watt PSU will be at the very edge if not under what you will need. Nvidia recommends 550Watt or larger power supply for the gtx570.

There are two other things you will need to consider.

1)If you choose to get either the 480 or 580 you will probably want to upgrade your power supply as you are just at the minimum requirement and you don't want to over load your PSU.

2)Because your system is a bit older you will run into a bottleneck which means your system will not be able to use the card to it's full potential. You can still upgrade your card to a newer one and see an improvement in performance over your old one. However, if you were running a p67 setup you will get even better performance overall with your new card.

I am not saying that there is anything wrong with your choice to upgrade I just though you should know the benefits of upgrading your entire system if you should choose to. New core i5's and i7's running on the p67 platform are capable of 5GHz on air, just something you might want to think about.

I am going to get the 570.  At the moment, I have no interest in building anything Intel. (Clergy, I do appreciate you recommendation however.)  I may drop a higher up Phenom into my board, but that is about all I will do at the moment.  My current power supply has an output of 580 watts with 18 amps per rail (4 rails).  I am looking at the Antec 750 watt High Current Gamer power supply as a replacement.  Its a true 750 watt psu with 40 amps per rail (4 rails).

I did some calculations and from what I can tell, I would be right at the 550 watt mark.  I could try and run with my current power supply and see what happens.  In any event, I appreciate everyones time.
