Okay so I have always been interested in rig modding and I have tried my best to make a good looking rig but it has never been on par with most of the machines on mod-riggs. But now I want to take it to the next level and clean my rig up and apply a good looking theme that is clean and good color design. I also want to prepare for the future by upgrading certain components now that are a lot of work to clean up. (example: new power supply so I don't have to re-sleeve all of the cables when I upgrade the rest of my components) Here is what my rig consists of: (pictures will be included when I get the mobo back from EVGA RMA) EVGA nForce 680i INTEL Q6600 (stock due to unable to find stable clock on default vcore) XIGMATEK Intel Core i7 compatible black Dark Knight-S1283V REV.W Heatsink (Want to go water cooling) ADATA red/pink 4GB (4 x 1GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) EVGA GeForce 560TI Antec Nine Hundred Two V3 Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Gaming Case (I should have bought a full case? or larger case?) ABS Tagan BZ Series BZ800 800W ATX12V Power Supply My current theme is mainly blue/black and some red/green. It is scattered and un-centralized and doesn't look good with that many colors in the system. I was thinking about going with the Black/Blue/White theme because I have mainly Black/Blue theme right now and white would be a good addition when throwing out the green/red stuff that is in there. But I am open to any theme suggestions as I plan on replacing all components (except recent upgrades like the 560 TI and case if I go with blue/black/?). I plan on throwing a lot of money at this project once it is completed and all components have been upgraded but ATM I do not have the money to upgrade the main components (example: mobo+cpu+ram). So I am looking for some small or one component upgrades that can keep me busy with making it look good as I stated in my opening. I am a EVGA Fan so if you have component suggestions and EVGA has an option for it I am all ears...(unless its expensive compared to competitors) I am all about the cheapest price to performance ratio, so if the extra money is worth it I do not have a problem with that. But before ANYTHING I think a theme should be picked out first so that components I buy now do not conflict with the them I pick. Please consider and advice, Thank you in advance for any thought that you give me! I am all ears. UPDATE!!! I recently ran into an unexpected $500 so this project is going to get underway a lot quicker than I thought.... Please! start cranking out some suggestions!!

Thanks Hething... and don't worry this is my new home when it comes to forums. :-) and I did check out your rig and I like it, although I don't wanna copy the red/white, unless I can find some future components that would fit the theme and if I did any red I think I might try and do a fire/ice theme, I really liked that from another thread. Slickric what does red and white lightning look like?

So last night I was thinking and I thought about going with a Black/Blue/Orange... What do you think? I tried to look up some example rigs with these colors inside and I think it looks pretty sweet. I saw the post on how to sleeve your fan cables... I was wondering If I really need those tools you suggested... That is quite a bit of money just for one simple project... and will it be that big of a deal if I did not get these tools? if I don't get these tools, is there some type of substitute I could use to do the same thing?

midrigs So last night I was thinking and I thought about going with a Black/Blue/Orange... It would be pretty tough to find orange lighting I think dude! I know I have seen fan's out there with orange LED's in them, but I am not sure if I have ever seen orange cathode's or LED strips. Blue and orange is definitely a unique lighting setup though, not many people would have such a thing! You would have to take a peek on site's such as newegg.com, tigerdirect.com, amazon.com, frozencpu.com, xoxide.com or other websites you know of to see if you can find some orange lighting. You will definitely be able to find orange LED fan's if your interested in many of those site's I listed. As for sleeving your cables... unfortunately their is no way around getting the tools. You absolutely need them to get the job done. I have no experience in this area, but I have looked it up and it would be like trying to tie a thick rope around in needle without the necessary tools. Sleeving your cables can and almost always is an expensive and time consuming job, especially if you sleeve everything like your PCI-E connectors, 24 pin mobo connector, 8 pin cpu connector and so on. Their are people on this forum that do custom sleeving exactly the colors you want and such that make extensions for you to use, I think his name is martin, but they come at a very high price, for instance I believe one of his 24 pin extensions are 60 + shipping, somewhere in that area. Fortunately, their is an alternative. Some brands such as NZXT sell pre made extensions (keep in mind they are no where near the quality of custom sleeved cables) that still look much better than bare wires you can purchase for pretty decent prices compared to having all custom made sleeving done. For example, I am using an NZXT 24 pin extension cable for my case. It is not as nice as a custom made extension, but it does the trick and doesn't burn a hole in my pocket! $9.99 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812170007 -------------------------- Hope that helps you and gives you some info! Thanks for commenting on my stuff.

First off, thank you for the reply! I know I have seen orange LED fans somewhere before too... and I will search around for some! I am sure I will be able to find an orange LED strip... (they make them for cars too) When it comes to sleeving my cables I definatly want the best result possible so I think I will just go ahead and purchase the tools and do it myself... I found the cable sleeving on the website recommended in the cable sleeving guide and I think I will go ahead with that. (not sure how much to actually buy to sleeve everything though? what I have in my cart right now is 1 black 1 blue and 1 orange + 2 heat shrinks) BUUUT My next question when it comes to sleeving my cables is should I upgrade my PSU before I do this... I have a 800W right now (pic below) and I plan on upgrading to an i7 + P67 + 1 more 560 TI. Is this PSU good to handle that setup? it is about 4 years old. Also one more question for you since you have the corsair h60. Eventually I plan to water cool my hole system... Does the H60 tie into a larger system or does it have to use its own radiator/tubing?

sleeving extenders is a good idea, if you plan to upgrade your psu later on. I've sleeved my psu instead, since I got a ax1200 which should be sufficient for most systems :-) A H60/H70/H80 is a closed single rad loop. You cant link it to other components without voiding warranty.. I have a H70 in my setup, so you can see what I looks like on my modsrigs.. I don't think that you can buy a backplate for the 560... http://www.evga.com/products/prodlist.asp?switch=4When you have the proper tools for sleeving then make sure to take the time necessary to make a good result. It takes long time to get a good result. To find out how much sleeving you need to buy, I used a ruler to measure the length of the cables that I wanted to sleeve. I multiplied the result with 1.15 (15% extra) to make sure I had plenty :-) I'll recommend you to buy the precutted shrink since this is your first time sleeving :-)

I bought the tools needed to sleeve and I got 1x black 1x blue 1x orange and 1x precut shrink and 1x un-cut shrink(because I didn't know which to get) How long does it take to ship from germany? I could find anything stating the time it takes.... Next Week I plan to upgrade my mobo/cpu/ram... any suggestions? this is what I have in my cart right now.... (very unsure on the RAM and not quite sure on the MoBo) Reason I am unsure on the MoBo - I probably won't ever got 3x SLI... I am not sure if I need the features that the FTW adds compared to the P67 SLI http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16820231476 http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16819115070 http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16813188082

Depends on what you are wanting. Some think that they'll never do 3xSLI and then, after a time, have a desire to do so. If you have the ability to do something doesn't mean you aren't going to at some point in the future. You're just building in the option to do that if you ever decided you wanted to. The extra features are there to give you the ability. Personally I've gone with cheaper and less feature rich boards in the past and have regretted it already. Currently I have that problem. From experience I have learned that if you go with less features than you are likely to use it will limit your ability to tweak things around when you want to and then you end up spending more to get the features that, had you already purchased it in the beginning, you are wanting. I say go for the FTW board if you can afford it even though you don't use everything.

You have made up my mind on the better board... What about the RAM? Blood4guts, I saw that LED strip and I will end up going with it due to lack of any cathodes I can find.... I would perfer a orange LED Cathode but yeah... can't find one anywhere even on google...

Looks like you got everything that you need. I'm sure during the build you'll notice a few minor things that you were looking for but that shouldn't stop the build. As far as the link postings go the admin of the board disabled them because of a spammer I think. You'll be over 50 posts soon enough and it won't be all that much of a hassle.

I just hope everything fits in my case without issues... I have a Antec 900 V2.. mid tower case, I heard the FTW board is a little bit longer than other boards... I think it will fit(I measured) but I am unsure about the cable management ports... I think it may cover these holes. I am on the market for a new case in the future too, got any recommendations for a new case that has a decent sized window (I like to show off). On another note I feel that my case will be annoyed by the red in the case (it may look good too idk) My RAM is red, the MoBo has some red on it, PSU has some red neon ports that I have to use. I guess we will see >.>

Ah nooooooo! A bad board.. that sucks dude. The waiting is the killer part as we all know... thats real unfortunate. I am waiting for my 2nd GTX 480, a GTX 480 backplate and some anodized screws for my system and some sleeved extensions for my GPU's right now. They should all be coming in this week, waiting sucks! I feel your pain haha. Great looking system man! Hope all is well with the replacement board.

You can contact Corsair direct, or for a much quicker solution go to a hobby shop that sells R/C vehicles, especially aircraft. Du-Bro Part #316 are black oxide socket head 6-32 x 1-1/4" screws that are perfect replacements for the fan mount screws that come in the H-Series Corsair kits. They are usually used as engine mounting screws. Get their Part #317 (6-32 x 1-1/2") length for a thicker fan. Great Planes is a similar company that makes these in a zinc-plate finish if you want "bling"... Got mine at my local Hobbytown U.S.A... My Corsair H60 came with a cross-threaded bolt, and I wanted to mount 2 fans in push-pull anyway. Final note - you can get them at Towerhobbies online, $1.26 for a 4pack. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXE002&P=FR

If you're still having the issue that the computer shuts off after trying to post - Try putting in only one stick of RAM, and try different slots. One of the DIMMS might be bad.

lol... Nefsis, I am a help desk tech... I did that amoung other things to determine the board was bad.... (EVGA im sure wouldn't give the RMA unless that was done) Muskie - thanks for your input, I already bought the screws off amazon though... Stratosrally - Thank you for the info on the screws... that was very helpful and it lead me to amazon which had cheaper shipping.

OK GUYS!!! Found that the mystery of the non-booting board was actually the PSU.... If I hold down the power to the CPU a light comes on that doesn't come on otherwise, also plugging in another PSU turned the board on successfully.... I ordered a replacement PSU and it will be here next week!!! Tell me what you think about this PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16817256069

I will probably go with 3 560's in the future.... or If I can find someone to buy my 560 TI for a decent price I might upgrade my GPU's also.... I am gonna go all out on this rig I think. I know someone that can get it for cheaper... .I got the PSU for $225 instead of $280. So that made me go through with it.
