Re:first GTX 670 waterblock Friday, July 13, 2012 8:00 AM (permalink)
here's my GTX 670 4 GB SC with EK-FC 670 waterblock.

I messed up the fittings, so I need to order some more parts. I was gonna connect the 2 cards via that 90-degree barb (one facing down, one facing up) and connect the two with 3/8" ID tubing, but the distance between them is too short. So I need to rethink my setup again.

In the meantime, I connect both cards with whatever way I can with whatever I have and I think I may need to upgrade my pump too.
Currently my pump is 800 LPH. I'm also watercooling my CPU. The problem is the flow-meter is not moving at all. So either the flow-meter is broken or the flow is just really slow. So I'm not sure if I should upgrade my pump. It's like spending another $120 - $130
I'm using this flow-meter. Is it possible for that flow-meter to stop turning? Like it's broken maybe.
Thinking about changing it into this one.
What do u guys think?

What did the flow meter show before you added the GPU blocks to your loop, or is this a new loop?

If it's a new loop, do you have the correct additional hardware to convert the flowmeter results to something a motherboard header can read, or did you hook it up to something else?

When you bled the loop of air, was your pump doing a good job of pushing the air out of the blocks or was it a hassle to bleed?

It's not a new loop. I've been using the flow meter for about 2 years maybe. It worked just fine. Then I sold the 680 HC about 2 months ago and used the whole watercooling for the CPU only and the flow-meter was rotating slower. I'm thinking either the pump gets weaker or something is blocking the flow inside.

So yesterday I added 2x GTX 670 with EK-FC670 waterblocks in the loop. I could see air bubbles in the tube yesterday and the pump was having a hard time pushing it through the tube.

Anyway for temperature results...using a 360 rad + pump 800 LPH + 3/8" ID tubing. Cooling CPU + 2x GTX 670 EK-FC670 waterblocks.
Right now CPU idles at 41c, both GPUs at 34C.
Yesterday I ran Heaven 3.0 and GPU #1 reached 50c, GPU #2 reached 47c. This is with the flow-meter not showing any flow at all.

I don't run flow meters. Waste of money in my opinion. My flow meter is seeing if the water is moving in my reservoir.

Recommend Watercool for water blocks (Company that makes Heatkiller Blocks). You can order direct from them and they will ship anywhere in the world. That is what I did to get exactly what I want. No one had the Nickel GTX680 block with backplate from them.
Customer service kind of took me by surprise when I had orderd two blocks but one backplate. They actually emailed me asking if it was mistake. Said if it was or if I would like to I can paypal them directly and they will add the second one to my order. They also took the time to confirm if the SLI Bridge was the right spacing to work with my motherboard. They have my service from now on.

EK lost my service with the new design.

Such a tiny little card, and little waterblock. Looks cool though, and those temps sound bout right. EK also lost my business with their new designs, good thing I got what I needed before hand.

I will either find a way, or make one.

I just about bought 2 of the Watercool blocks and backplates for my 670's today until I got to the part to pay..shipped would be $338.00 - ouch. Going to wait until they get to the states and see if they are any cheaper to buy local.

I tried tilting the pc case to see the waterflow back to the reservoir and it's really weak. I think I need a more powerful pump.
I'm waiting for the EK-FC Bridge CSQ and install that first and see if the flow is still weak.
If the flow is still weak, I'll get the Alphacool VPP655 1500 LPH pump. This is almost double the strength of my pump.

Actually this is what I was afraid of....The epic fail design of the EK CSQ waterblocks (too many 90-degree turns for the flow) ... it really hurts the waterflow. But the only reason why I bought EK waterblock is because it's the only waterblock for GTX 670 that's black. I'll probably get the EK-FC670 CSQ backplate as well as soon as it's available.

so that EK block+plate combo is the only black one out here? kinda sucks, I don't like EK designs ...

Heatkiller for gtx 680 looks kinda weird too with that aluminum colored backplate (only downside I can see) ...

and no evga wb either, just a backplate for stock fan housing hmmmm ... kinda sucks ...

yes, EK is the only one with black color waterblock for GTX 670. Others have weird colors on it. I really want it to be black.

yes, same here, I wanted a completely black block with black backplate, preferably the brushed black look kinda or something (have I just described an EVGA block + backplate? LOL!) ... well, the other blocks are looking weird, I agree on that

I don't quite like that shape and backplate of EK block ... the Koolance for 680 looks much better IMHO, but it's still a steel/black combo, wondering if they keep the same theme for 670.

I totally don't like the Heatkiller GPu X3 (again, for 680) block look either ... the backplate is OK, but it's all steel (no black) ...

wondering when the rest of vendors finally releases them to market. I guess we have to wait and see.

yup, I'm worried about the 72C thermal limit too as it causes a boost clock choke as I read... will see how it goes, I should be getting my first 670 reference in 2-3 weeks.

if anyone is getting the 670 waterblock + backplate other than EK, please post a picture of the card installed with the waterblock here.
Would be great for us to see what it actually looks like.
Maybe some results too.

I'll update my picture/temp results as soon as I get the backplates.

that's what I was afraid of. they kept the same theme for GTX 670 as for 680 cards ... I am not a fan of those colors ... worst things worst the steel backplate of Heatkiller GPU X3 doesn't look tragic in a totally black computer with red & blue leds ...

the 670 ref looks so cute with the heatkiller, hahahaha.

but yeah that's the reason why i got the ftw so i can use 680 blocks, and for black computer with the polished backplate, i think it looks nice, it's like adding a trim to contrast. i used to use black ek block and plate on my 470, but i went with heatkiller this time because i like how the heatkiller backplate looks. i have a obsidian 700d with a sabertooth z77, black vengeance ram, but i like how the heatkiller's polished metal looks with it.
i actually just ordered a second block + backplate, first one was from frozencpu, but they are sold out and haven't restocked since.... so i ordered from highflow.nl but it turns out it's on backorder... so i still gotta wait. im most likely gonna swap out to 2x 4gb ftw when it comes out, so i can still keep the blocks.

i know it's a crap picture, too lazy to pull out my camera for now, but here was a picture when i was filling.

^cute it is. however I am glad I won't be seeing the front plate in daily use.
HK's backplate is the nicest aftermarket one I've seen so far and I have to agree the polished steel contrasts quite well with the black background

*sigh* ... where is the EVGA GTX 670 reference block + backplate? sure, more money involved, weaker design in details, but all in all the performance of their blocks is very comparable to best blocks and the look of EVGA equipment is top notch!

I don't like the colors at all on those aquagrafx and heatkiller blocks. At least EK still keeps the awesome black color theme even though they added those lame meaningless circles on it.

LOL, i'd rather go with a steel look of HK's backplate (still hate the front block looks though) than those stupid circles on the black backplate of EK ... kinda reminds me of cheap rubber anti-slippery mat in some workshop toilet (no offense, it's my personal impression) ...

this is the 680 Koolance block (it looks best so far among aftermarket IMHO), I'm pretty sure they will keep the same theme for reference 670 block:

and at least for reference 680, people can use an EVGA backplate:
http://forums.evga.com...?m=1557818&mpage=1

I failed to find Koolance backplates ...

... anyways there is no EVGA GTX 670 backplates yet that would fit after stock housing removal ... those listed in EVGA stroe are for stock air cooling (fan housing extends the card length):

I am pretty sad right now ... no options for good looking decent water cooling block and cool looking backplate on reference GTX 670 ...

and I'd probably go with Koolance 670 reference block once it gets released ... pity that Koolance doesn't make matching back plates ....
