There have been some questions from non folders on how to sign up and get rolling for the CC. Here's a first attempt. Let me know if I missed anything guys. I'm also not great with editing the screen shots, wish I was. In any event here we go: - Sign up here. http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?high=&m=1566717&mpage=1#1566717 Say yes to the Passkey question and one will be sent to you by Barbarossa. It may not be necessary to have the passkey but it will not hurt to have it either.
- Download Jedi's GPU tracker here: http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=219556
- Install the tracker
- Start the tracker and go to Setup -> Configure.
- Check "enable CPU Folding" See below
- Check "enable GPU folding"
- Hit "Autodetect" GPU
- Then go to the "tracker settings" tab
- In the "Name" field type EVGApes it is case sensitive so type it exact or cut and paste
- Either click "quick team select" and pick EVGA or type in "Team:" 111065
- Cut and paste the passkey your were provided in the "Passkey" section
- Hit the "Apply" button at the bottom
- Hit the "Close" button at the bottom
- Then when you're ready to fold hit the "start CPU" and "start GPU" buttons. If you have multiple GPUs hit the "multiple GPU" button and in the next window, pick which GPUs you'd like to start.
Now you are ready to fold for the Chimp Challenge as a member of the EVGApes. As always folding is harder on your machine than gaming is, so make sure to watch your temps and make sure your setup will work properly. If you have ANY questions do not hesitate to post them here, someone WILL help, we always try. I know I've asked a ton of questions that I thought were dumb but no one EVER treated me that way and only helped me solve my problem. Some tips that might help on setup, if you are folding on your CPU. - If you are using a multicore processor (i5 or higher, or older "Q"s) you'll want to click "use multi-core SMP folding";
- Then, if you are not using GPUs to fold, select all cores to fold on, if you are using GPUs to fold as well, then select "specify number of core". And in the box pick the number of cores. As a general rule the clients do not like odd numbers, so if you have 8 cores pick 6, not 7. The reason behind this, is the GPUs need CPU clocks as well so it creates a bottleneck for both the GPU and CPU.
- By selecting "bigadv" you can get big points, but the projects take days to complete. If you want to run bigadv you need AT LEAST 8 cores, (i7 860 or above) HyperThreading counts in the core department, and it does not matter if you are only running 6 under SMP you will still be able to run bigadv, as the system believes that you 8 cores available.
- Lastly, if you are running bigadv, stock clocks will not do. You will need to Over Clock (OC) your CPU to at least 3.6. If you do not OC to that level you will not complete the bigadv in time to collect bonus points.
If you need help OC'ng your rig and getting it set up, once again ASK for help, we will be glad to do it, we've all been there and had to work our way through the process. Personally, I've lost hardware, so if I can help others I'd be glad to lend a hand. Good Luck and Let's Roll Apes. Passkey tip!!! One of the mistakes we see over and over is when folks are using Copy-Paste with the passkey number from a PM or an email, when they paste it in the "Setup" - "Configuration" in the FAH GPU Tracker V2. Please see the two pics below. Bottom line, there cannot be a space after the numbers. Notice the flashing line (Well it flashes off and on when active, not in the pic )... Bad example... Good example below!!

tank1023 How about v7 client set up? That might be a good add. I haven't done it yet so if anyone wants to give me the info I'll add it here. The main purpose was for the people who have never folded before and want in on the CC, I noticed a couple on the general discussion page.

Question, If you prime your own Passkey, does it stay primed for both EVGApes, and your own screen name, assuming you have reached 10 in each, so when you switch back , it still works ? Or do you have to prime again ?

Yes, it stays primed for previously used names. There is no need to re-prime a passkey after it has already been primed for a particular username.

Of course, if you are going to continue to use your passkey for CC (no problem there) you may want to reprime it prior to the challenge, so that when the CC starts you are getting full bonus for the Apes.

Question... Is the Passkey that would be sent to us already used by a lot of folks so it does not require the normal 10 before point? Or is it new and we should use our own? I ask because for one reason or another the passkey I has used the past few years reset a few months ago and I had to do another 10 to get the bonus points (And why my March SUCKED for productivity). I would hate to use my passkey for the apes because the first 10 would be so low in PPD ...

In order to get bonus points (ranging from double to 10x the standard points for a WU) for a WU completed in a fast period of time. We have to complete 10 of these projects/WU under each name and passcode we use in order to get the bonus points. We call it primed... So say you are not primed... And you complete a WU on a CPU... = about 8000 points total for two days + of computer usage. Now after you are primed the score will be about 75,000 for the exact same period of computer time. Make since?

troy8d This doesn't touch on SMP or BigAdv? What do you mean by "this"? If you mean the setup guide. It was intended just to get people going, not to tweak their rig. That becomes something different. Let me know your thoughts.

I think it would be good just to let people know they have that option...not necessarily make the decision for them. I agree it shouldn't be an exhaustive guide, but it shouldn't ignore the issue entirely as the thread is directed at those who may have not folded before. Just my opinion.
