Ok...to make the long story short; I have a blackmagic design intensity shuttle pvr which requires a usb 3.0 connection with full 5gb/s bandwidth otherwise it will not work at all. I have a E759 classified mobo with 2x gtx 580s in the first 2 slots and asus xonar essence stx in the 3rd slot, 4th slot and top 1x slot (near the heatsink) are free. So far i've tired evga usb 3.0 pci-e card, cavalry usb 3.0 pci-e card, and a balkin usb 3.0 pci-e card. All those cards are PCI-E 2.0 1x cards, and i know for a fact that the cavalry card works on my friends system with a gigabyte x58 mobo without onboard usb 3.0 controller, but whenever i use it on my board and plug in the intensity shuttle pvr USB Bandwidth Exceed message pops up, and device cannot start because the card is running at half its bandwidth only ...2.5GB/s which is not enough for intensity shuttle to work. I've searched the web up and down, updated nec usb controller fw and drivers, and tried the cards in different slots but still run in 2.5gb/s mode. There was one solution that works for sure which is a pci-e 4x asus u3s6 card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813995004) which runs at full 5gb/s on all mobos and all the time, but unfortunately it has been discontinued. I was wondering if there is a BIOS update that fixes this issue or maybe someone might know something about this? The sad thing is that I cant return the pvr, and im about to smash it to bits with a hammer at this point.

Your problem is not the software, or the driver, it's the babdwidth of the 1X slot, if you are going to get it to work, your going to have to find a 4X card, or replace the board with a board that supports true usb3.

As I said it works fine on a gigabyte board, and pci-e 2.0 x1 slot should supply full 5gb/s of bandwidth. It even says so on the manufacturers site:
"The USB 3.0 expansion card must be one of the following:
x4 lane PCI Express. This card can be fitted in a x4 lane or faster slot in any supported series of motherboard. We recommend the Asus U3S6.
x1 lane PCI Express 2.0. This card can be fitted in a x1 lane or faster PCI Express 2.0 slot in any supported series of motherboard. We recommend the Gigabyte GA-USB3 and the Shintaro USB 3.0 PCIe expansion card"
Also a question for eVGA here: Why is this advertised as a card that provides up to 5gb/s bandwidth when it only does 2.5gb/s ? http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.asp?pn=100-U3-EU30-TR&family=Peripherals&sw=22 , unless it is a mobo issue and there is a way to enable full 5gb/s on pci-e 2.0 x1 slot products? Blacmagic suggests that on some mobos this setting can be changed in bios: "On some motherboards, it may be necessary to enable PCI Express 2.0 for 1 lane PCIe slots in the BIOS to ensure full bandwidth is available to the PCI Express 2.0 slots."

Can anyone from EVGA confirm that i'm just wasting time here, or let me know if there is an actual solution or bios update that can make it work?

Have you tried it on your free 16x slot? If not I would.
I don't know about your model board, but the E759's 1x slot is PCIe 1x.

Tried on the x1 and x16/x8 slot #4, doesnt work in either one. It should work even in x1 slot as long as its a pci-e 2.0 not 1.0, and this board has rev 2.0 pci-e slots ( E759)

If you do get a response, please post back in this thread letting us know how things work out.

I have some speculation as to the cause of the issue, I'm curious to find if those speculations are in the ballpark or not.

Our 759 boards use an nf200 bridge chip to provide more PCIe lanes. I don't have any concrete information, but I think it works by doubling the number of lanes, but at half the transfer speed.

I have other speculations.  I remember when our boards came out software like Everest would incorrectly report that cards located in slots connected to the nf200 chip were operating in PCIe 1x mode, which was fixed fairly quickly by an update to Everest.  Perhaps the software you use is incorrectly reporting the bandwidth as a result of the nf200 chip?

You could test whether the problem lies with the nf200 chip by putting your USB 3.0 into the slot located in the picture below, which is a full x16 slot not affected by the nf200 chip and see if you still get the error. It would mean moving your graphics card though.

The problem is that it only detects first video card in that slot only, so if i relocate the videocard i wont get any output on screen.

That's interesting, I've never had that problem on this board.  I've been running both my video cards in the 2nd and 3rd PCIe x16 slots, occasionally filling the first x16 PCIe slot with a TV Tuner card... and other users I've spoke with never had an issue leaving that slot open or using it with another type of adapter.

I'd say give it another shot then see what the EVGA techs have to say.

While you're at it, double check your PCIe disable jumpers (located in-between the IDE connector and the 24-pin power connector on the motherboard) to make sure that slot didn't get disabled by accident, that would be a possible explanation as to why your video card wouldn't get detected in the past.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

You should be able to put your primary card in any slot, I have no problem with my E759 putting a card into any slot and getting an output, these are not like the old Nvidia based boards that needed the Primary card to be in the top PCI-E slot.

If your cards not being detected in any of the other slots you could have a problem with those3 PCI-E slots.

Correct. This Q was just answered recently by EVGATech_MatthewH here:

But I wonder if the Nforce chip in the E759 changes that.

It sounds like a problem with your slots, or an outside chance of a ground fault.

Firstly you should be able to boot off any PCIe slot, if you cannot there is a larger problem than your add-in cards functionality. You may want to remove the board from the case and run it on a non-conductive surface to rule out a ground fault.

If you are able to get the slots operational outside the case try the add-in card in one of the full PCIe slot, and not the 1x slot. I cannot guarantee their functionality or compatibility, but I see no reason they would not work together either.

We need to figure out why the slots aren't working before tackling the add-in card issue. Can you please test a single card in each slot, if you get no video from one of them then remove it from the case and test again.

Hi Guys! Sorry for such a delay in posting back, as I was away for a couple of days. The motherboard itself is fine and I did get the video cards to boot off any pci-e slot, and realized that my previous e759 mobo couldnt and that was one of the reason it was rmad along with dead onboard sound Anyway, I got the usb 3.0 card to provide full bandwidth in pci-e x16 slot #1, the one thats closest to the NB as you suggested, however the pvr still doesn't like the card and refuses to work with it, but doesnt display the "bandwidth exceed" message anymore. It appears to be a pvr problem at this point as even the manufacturer is unsure why it doesnt like some usb card, but they do know that it only works with asus u3s6 pci-e x4 card and native usb 3.0 controllers on x58 chipset mobos only. Thank You all for helping me, I greatly appreciate it.

PS: Ordered a used asus u3s6 card for whopping $76
