The best thing you could do if you already have everything on your Original HDD and just need an OS on the SSD then just go for it.

You do not need to reformat the Hard drive if it is a large HDD ( 1TB drive). Just leave it as it is and all your files will be there to access and you can use your SSD as the boot drive and use that HDD as the storage drive. Just create folders on that drive and start saving!.

Just change boot order in Bios so that your motherboard chooses to boot off the SSD and not the HDD first. If the room is a problem for you just pick up another 1TB HDD and move all your files over to it and then format the drive you have.

You will be able to access all your files that are in your hard drive like an external drive or USB drive. You would just need to go into the Users folder and find your user name and through there you can access everything you need from stuff saved on your desktop to stuff inside folders!

Then you would be able to have 2 nice big HDD's for storage :P!

thats what i did :P!

any other questions or was anything confusing the way i answered it?

Try a different port, cable, and even power cord.  What motherboard are you using?

When you install.  Make sure you go into the Bios and change it to AHCI settings.  This will also give you an increased performance in read/write speed over the standard IDE.
Try that and see if that helps.  Also, you could try pulling the cable for the 1TB out temporarily until the OS is finished installing on the SSD.
