Nothing more frustrating than building a new computer, updating all of the firmware and bios, and not be able to complete a Windows install!!!

Ok here is what i'm working with... everything brand new and flashed last night.

- E770 Classified 3 with latest Bios
- Marvell chipset was flashed to latest version from this thread:  http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?&m=636262&mpage=1 and I used the latest driver from that thread which is now the only driver available on the evga site.
- Crucial C300 flashed to latest firmware (just one drive so no RAID setup possible)
- Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Result was almost complete install and then blue screen from the Marvell driver:
INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (mv91xx.sys, 0x0000003d)

Attempted using the old Marvell driver from ASUS's site but it wasn't happy with that either with blue screens that I didn't catch in time to read.

I then flashed BACK to the orig Marvell firmware and tried both the new Marvell driver and the old driver from ASUS's site but Windows just doesn't like it.

My question is has anyone got this working without RAID?  It seems like most threads i've read users are running raid.  The whole reason I purchased this board was to use the Sata 3.0 with the Crucial C300.  Should I open a support ticket with Evga?

Did you install the marvel drivers at install like we used to with a floppy on an XP installation? I have a toot somewhere on how to do so and can find it if you need it.

yea i did that and after reflashing to the newer firmware version and unplugging all other drives except for optical its now at the "setup is preparing your computer for first use" but has been at this screen for a good 15 mins.

I posted in the firmware thread that there is no way to change the Marvell Hard drive function from IDE to AHCI so i'm wondering if that has something to do with it?

What a mess!  My other option could be to install while connected to the intel controller and then attempt to move over to the Marvell but that's pretty sketchy.  There is no reason why this shouldn't be working (besides crappy Marvell firmware and drivers)

hmmm so it seems it was "hung".... I ejected the dvd drive and it continued to the detecting video performance and it finished the install.  Interesting.... Now I wonder how long it will stay up without crashing.  I'll cross my fingers and keep everyone posted.  Maybe windows was getting confused with drives being connected to the different controllers?  That shouldn't be the case but there is definitely something going on there with that Marvell chipset.

I had no problems installing W7x64 pro on my X58 board with a single Crucial C300 in one of the Marvell slots.  (I did have a problem, but that was because my ancient Sony DRU 510-A would not read the W7 disk.  I had to burn it onto a USB flash drive and boot from there).

However, I did NOT update the BIOS firmware that the board came with before doing the install.

@Method_ there's no need for you load any drivers before or during the Win7 installation, all you need to do is:

1 - Make sure your drive its visible in the BIOS
2 - After you system POST, press the "Ctrl + M" during the Marvell controller post and again double check your SSD its displayed w/in the HBA controller.

3 - Boot to your Win7 x64 DVD and follow the instructions, DO NOT load any drivers at this point, wait for the initial setup to complete and load basic drivers w/in Windows 7.

    Good luck

No need to load drivers?  What driver are you using?

Everything seems to be up and running now but I'm getting bad write speeds compared to everyone else in the sata firmware sticky thread.

When doing a fresh Win7 install it's recommend it to use the native support drivers, once you have completed the basic Windows load, then you can load the factory drivers...

That is most certainly true when using the ICH10R controller ports on EVGA Intel boards under any configuration (single drive or Raid) however when using the marvel controller the drives will be invisible to the installation routine until the drivers for it are installed.

Why are you using a Firmware from the ASUS Site?
You can download the original Release Marvell Firmware here:
    http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=636262

Scroll down and there is this section:

Here is the original Release Flash so that you can test the results back to back to see if the release gains any performance benefits for your configuration.

    FLOPPY  Method
    http://cdn.evga.com/bios/MarvellOriginal.exe

    CD Method
    http://cdn.evga.com/bios/MarvellOriginal.iso
Using this BIOS it stopped BSOD'ing for me (also using the old driver cause the new driver only seems to work with the new firmware).
A good way to test if it still BSOD's was running CrystalDiskMark because it crashed like every second run with the 1042 BIOS.

For my Crucial RealSSD i use firmware 2 (was shipped with). the latest is version 6. maybe this is also relevant but i dont think so...

    philippvogel ,

I literally tried every combination of old/new firmware and old/new drivers.  The install was still a little sketchy with a freeze during the third boot but atleast I have everything installed.  I'm currently up and running with the latest firmware and latest driver, but there was/is no option to turn on AHCI so i'm not getting the performance I should be. I currently have a support case open with EVGA.  The case is with engineering so hopefully we get some results.  There is no reason why we should have to try every firmware and driver available.  I work in IT and deal with many types of storage every day from multiple vendors.  If there is an issue with current firmware they will come up with a workaround aka "known issue" and will release a new firmware.  These days its almost unheard of for a vendor to recommend not having the latest firmware.  The only way to fix an issue however is to open a support case and go through the proper channels.  Its been a few days but their response has been great so far so i'll give it some time before I ask if there is any status.

    Hi m3thod

Your marvell seems alot more unstable then mine was.
My install was very fast and had the first BSOD after some days. I found a way to provocate the BSOD's with CrystalDiskMark however.

You can enable AHCI in the Motherboard BIOS. I also have the e770 and had no problem enabling AHCI. I think its under integrated peripherals (just there were the other SATA/USB Stuff is).  Don't forget to change the registry key if you change it on an existing installation.

Oh and something else: Have you tried the lower Sata3 Port? I had really bad performance on the upper port, but on the lower port its just fine. Performance was always how it sould be (close to specc and other benchmarks for Crucial RealSSD 128).

But of course you are right: The Marvell Controller should just work and not make all these problems. It really sucks to say it in other words... If i didn't have a SATA3 SSD would just use the Intel Ports...

Keep me up to date please.

I have AHCI enabled in the bios but from what I see that's only enabling it on the intel ports.  In the Sata 3.0 section there is only enable and disable.  When I go into the Marvell chipset bios it says my SSD is in IDE mode but the only options I have when in the Marvell chipset bios is selecting a disk for raid.  I only have one disk so that's not an option for me.

When you go into the Marvell chipset bios does it say your SSD is in AHCI mode?

Here's a thought. On the intel ports can't you enable raid and only pick one drive? If you can I think it automatically runs in AHCI mode even if it doesn't say so. Maybe it can be done in the Marvell setup.
