The Firmware and Software below is applicable to the following mainboards:
  • EVGA CLASSIFIED SR-2
  • EVGA x58 CLASSIFIED 3
  • EVGA X58 FTW 3
  • EVGA X58 SLI 3
PLEASE NOTE:
  • It is strongly recommended that you backup any data on the SATAIII/6G drives if in a raid configuration before flashing the Marvell chipset.  In rare occurrences the raid will degrade and could lose data.
  • If this is a new installation, flashing of firmware is recommended before installation of data to the drive to minimize any issues that may occur after the flash if in a raid configuration.
  • After firmware is flashed to the marvell controller the drivers should be reinstalled to avoid any possible issues that can arise as it recognizes the controller differently after the flash.

Firmware Version 1.0.0.1407

Glad to see the dev team is fixing the bugs and publishing releases!  Exactly why I bought an EVGA over anything else out there!

You really need some installation notes here I can see confusion starting to mount. How to handle updating a system that already has windows installed on a SataIII drive and how to F6 the drivers at windows installation. It should also express the need or recommendation to update the firmware prior to windows installation. If I missed it please point to the tutorials so I can pass the info on to those who are already asking about it.

I 100% agree with this.  I'm expecting the C3 board here any day now.  Do I do the firmware update and then install the drivers before Win7 install?  I'm assuming that's correct, but this is somewhat confusing the way it's written.  At least for me it is...

Ok, I did a review on the X58 SLI3 about a month ago, so I'll use those CrystalMark results as the before comparison.....

    And the after results.....

Other than the 4k QD32 write test everything is much slower......  It'll be interesting to see what the rest of you guys come up with, but for me a definate step backwards.....

Oh, and if you do decide to flash you might see a couple errors reported during the process but the flash will continue and finish just fine......

is this an SSD?   single or dual?

was the original bench run on a clean disk? and was the new test run on the same fresh disk or existing or imaged data?

the 1000 mb is just the size of the test run, nothing to do with size of actual drive , in the second window you can see that his C drive is 1862 GB so that's his WD's i would say

    Ditto ... same question .

I have a new 770 coming as well with a raptor 600 gig hd .... no raid . Do I need this software update ?
Also : In the down load there are 1 file folder SCSI , and 2 apps ... DVR console set up and DRV set up . Inside the SCSI folder there are 4 file folders, 1 file and 1 oem file . EXACTLY what get's burned to the disk for transfur to new board?

If the op could do a " step 1,2,3,4 etc. for us NOOBS ( speaking of myself) that would be great. The firmware update is a single .iso burn.... boom , done , easy enough but the software down load is full of different files and this is confusing to me

    Thanks in advance !

Both test were run on 2X Western Digital Black 1 Tb 7200 Rpm SATA 6.0 Gbs drives set in a Riad0 configuration.  Both tests were run on the same install of Win7. The system is in the exact same state it was during the "Before" test.  The only difference is the new firmware.

I ran the drv setup and it appeared to run the driver setup first and then started to run the console setup. Then Windows errored and said "software not installed properly, no driver found". Maybe I should have run console setup first. Anyone know for sure? I don't have a drive connected to those ports so I can't tell if it's OK or not.

Did you delete the old Array and build a new with the updated firmware? Not sure it would make a difference however I do see 1% on the original and 2% in the second screen shot. The percentage as of amount full on disk. Not that it would make a huge difference any way but one test has more data on the disk than the other. Looks like the difference between 23 and 39GB or 16GB. In all fairness the original was on a clean/fresh install of windows was the current?

I doubt that small increase in added data should or would make much of a difference at all.  What will kill the test results is stuff running in the background.  This is why before I run the benchmark I close all non essential processes in task manager.

    LV,

I have seen crystaldisk tests change dramatically from one day to a week later.   so your results while not great do not actively represent what the end result for all users will be.  also are you using newest drivers as well?

I would suggest  running something such as atto or at the least benching it on the same day before/after flash to ensure the closest to accurate results.

    Shannon,
I've been using the latest driver for a long time, it's been on competitors web sites for over a month now.  If you can provide me the file needed to flash back to the older firmware I'd be happy to test both..... one after the other.

Also I might mention that the X58 SLI3 I have is NOT my daily runner.  I did the review on it a little over a month ago and it's pretty much just been sitting since.  The difference in HDD space being used is because of all the benchmark programs I loaded after CrystalMark was installed.

Can we also have Intel RAID ROM update, then, please? It is confirmed (on other boards) that it would give a performance boost.

Had mixed performance results after updating the firmware.  Write speeds were about the same, but read speeds took a hit.
