Who wants a copy?
Here are the first two (Frozen and Folding):
http://www.redbrowse.com/balla/uploads/RealTempSkinned.zip
Thanks Balla!

Extract the ZIP file to the directory of your choice.  No install necessary.  As long as all the files are in the same directory, RealTemp will work fine.  Two EXE files are included; one for each skin.  Use whichever you want.

UPDATED!

As you can see, I am constantly adding more.  If you are interested, I can send you copies which aren't already hosted if you would like a copy or would want to host them for me.

Well, it isn't easy to change the background.  It isn't like a skin you would throw over Winamp or Precision.  It has to be worked through the executable itself.

It would be easier if you would post pictures of what you want, and I can make them.

    Thanks man!

I can send you different versions.  I don't know what color and layout people want.

I will send you an email with the program attached soon.  Just let me know what you want first.  Both versions?  One or the other?  Something else?

    Re:Frozen Skinned RealTemp 3.0 2009/11/10 22:12:30 (permalink)
    Alright.

I am sending you a zip file.

It contains the standard RealTemp files except that it includes two executables.  One is called RealTempFrozen.exe and the other is called RealTempFolding.exe.  The mod is done to the EXE itself, all the other files are only necessary to make the basic RealTemp program function.  This means that you can place RealTempFrozen or RealTempFolding in any folder already containing the RealTemp files, and the executables will work perfect.

    Copy?

In other words, you can host the RealTempFrozen and RealTempFolding executables alone without any other files and people can use them as long as they install the official version first in order to get the .dll and .sys files necessary.  Or you can host them in the package I send you.  Your choice.  You could also split them up into two seperate packages containing all the necessary background files but having only one RT executable in each package instead of two such as I am sending it to you.

AH, to avoid confusion, you should probably just host the ZIP in the same manner as I sent it to you.  People can then choose which file they want to run based on their preference of background.  If they wanted to, they could delete the other EXE, but each EXE only takes up ~460kb.

    Does that work?

Test it out for yourself Balla.  I don't think you will have any problems.  But who knows.  Just extract it to a folder and bam, you are done.  No installation necessary.

Get back to us with a public link.  ;)

    Wow, that's cold.

I will look into it tomorrow.

No offense, but your picture looks pretty busy with alot happening in it.  It may be a bit too distracting (I know, so was the Folding at Home one).  Do you have any other good frozen block pictures?

Well, I am going to bed.  Night.

I could try modding other programs.  No guarantee though.  Not everyone uses RealTemp.

Linx came to mind.  I tried to get into Linx, but it appears that the contents of the EXE have been compressed individually.  I haven't figured out how to crack into it yet.

You are welcome.  I trust that it works without issue.

Yes sir.  Do you know how to get into programs which have been compressed with an EXE compressor?

Maybe I shouldn't screw around with LinX anyways since I do not know the license agreement on it (need to research that).  RealTemp is totally fine license wise when it comes to modifications.

Did you contact the author of RealTemp before deciding to create skinned versions?  The e-mail address used to be in the About... box before you removed it and put your name and picture in there.

If you are going to go to the trouble of skinning a program then why not at least start with the most recent version of RealTemp.

ty_ger07 by chance do you speak with Kevin about removing his email address and putting your picture on his program?
I know that's freeware but it would be a common sense gesture to speak with author first instead making modifications without his permission.
I know Kevin, he's an open minded guy and I'm sure that he'll allow you to make skins even he'll help you to samve some time.
    You don't play nice.

That Copyright notice only covers the WinRing0 library and related files which are provided by OpenLibSys.org

No problems ty_ger07.  I was just joking.  No hard feelings.

I was just a little shocked last night when I saw these creations.  It was a **** kind of moment.
I asked burebista to come on by for a look too.

You hereby have my full permission to hack away at any version of RealTemp however you like.  If you continue to keep my name in the About... box then you also have my permission to add or delete anything in there that you like.  Throw your name in there if you want to be recognized for your efforts.

Skinned versions of RealTemp are a good idea.  It might be easier for me to add an option so users can add their own .bmp image file to RealTemp to be used as a background.  If I can be of any help to you with your project then let me know.

    Thank you very much sir!

I know I didn't follow common courtesy and some of the things I did weren't in the best taste.  You were able to look through that and be a gentleman.

    Thank you.

I may consider messing around with the newer versions of RealTemp.  I haven't really made up my mind.  This little adventure didn't seem too profitable or desireable.  But I am glad it got wheels turning in your mind regarding more user customization.

If your goal is profit, free software is definitely not the place to be.  I can't imagine that modded free software will be any more profitable than regular free software.

After half a million + downloads of version 3.00 from TechPowerUp alone, I still haven't made enough money to cover the cost of the temperature gun I bought let alone all the CPUs I've tested.  Don't tell my wife.

Think of things positively.  Maybe your modded software will open a door for you and provide you with an opportunity later in life.

Add to your resume, "Worked with the author of RealTemp to create some unique skinned versions."
If anyone comes looking for a reference, I'll give them the thumbs up.
