So this summer I decided it was time to do some watercooling. The allure of not having to listen to the Harrier jet in my case (aka GTX580 SC) and the thrill of trying something new overpowered me... so here we go. The theme was green and black. First a shot of the gtx 580 being disassembled (because none of us have seen this before): Next up, some sleeve purchased from MDPCX of course: Sleeving is hard work... but it looks sooooo sweet! The case: HAF932 Black Edition, ready for install :) Some goodies to go inside... yep that's right, 1X 360 and 1X 240 with 5 gentle typhoons. Fan installation on 240 rad, then into the front of the case: And now for the 360: Time for some waterblock installs, I went with the EK Nickel-Acetal blocks for CPU, full cover mobo and GPU: Starting to come together: Some shots of the reservoir, went with the FrozenQ anti-tvirus: Neat temperature sensor to be plugged into the NZXT Sentry LE fan controller, gives me a water temp readout: Leak testing, proud to say no leaks from the get go, turns out I can put together compression fittings properly. Went with the koolance compressions btw, love them so far! Some final shots. I need to make a plate for the bottom portion of the case to tidy up some of the cable action, look for that to come in a later update. Also some shots of the "battlestation" itself. 2X Asus 24" LED Monitors with a desk mount :). Should add that the pump I used was an Aquacool version of the MCP355. Temps are excellent, nothing gets above 40 degrees C, water temp stays around 23 to 25. Let me know what you think, suggestions are always welcome. Look forward to hearing from ya :). Edit: I should explain the loop config too I guess. Res->Pump->360 Rad->CPU->MOBO->240 Rad->GPU->Res seems to worrk nicely so far, as you can tell from the temps.

very nice, i like the black and green combo myself. im working on a build (in my sig) on the original version of the HAF 932. one question- what fluid did you end up going with and why? im using distilled water and a silver coil.

I had already checked out your rig, looks very nice pyre. I went with distilled water and pt nuke. I went with the water because I have heard many horror stories about other manufactured coolants. I also like the fact that the water is readily available and inexpensive. I think with any coolant maintenance will be the key, not that I am an expert or anything it's just a general fact of life.

right now im getting ready to dump the second batch of water so i can replace the top of the pump and also to load up with fresh water and flush it out. it turns a light blue tinge after a bit because of the copper in the radiator, i think the used rad i got wasnt very used because it still has some flux in it (the blue stuff i assume) another thing im looking at is replacing the back panel of the case with a custom made one out of plexi to raise the motherboard and to let a HPTX board fit in the case with some heavy modding.

Neat build man Good PSU you have there as well, the Silver Stone Strider Plus 850 Watt right? Same PSU I used for Firefox SMP 2006, due to it's high reliability factor @ The EVGA Team Please do give this guy a Blue Ribbion, his build deserves one as that goes His build simply deserves it!

You're so close Gold Leader, it's actually the 1000W Plus. Loving it so far! That was also an upgrade when I went to water cooling.

ah okay! well you could use that too if Overclocking is your thing and you can always add a second GTX 580 SCE as later upgrade, really I have two now for like 5 months I think, and yeah they really get the job done well You can check that build here : http://forums.evga.com/fb.ashx?m=1233507 I really like how you only have to connect the wires you need and nothing more, so ideal of these PSU's.

Thanks guys, keep the comments coming, especially if you have any suggestions for making this rig better! (I know adding another 580 would make it better but that's just not in the cards right now lol)

while folding my GPU (ive never been able to get my CPU stable in folding, and im not looking forward to troubleshooting it) my CPU sits at 35-42 degrees according to E-LEET and 27 degrees according to a temp sensor on the bottom of the CPU water block. this is with the 240 rad and either 2 very slow but quiet fans in push or two gentle typhoons in pull. the fan change doesn't seem to have made a difference. ill post some pictures of the current setup in my build page if you want to give me any tips or comment on it. http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=1215707 Stuey 1122 Yeah gotta watch for that flux... it'll get ya! @ Rukian the total cost wasn't too bad, I'd have to look back and see what the grand total was. I've been collecting the parts as they came on sale for the better part of a year now. @raw2dogmeat I'm using an external enclosure and the sata port at the back of the mobo for my optical. I rarely use it so I don't miss having it internal. @all, thanks again for the comments! I am glad that you like it, I truly enjoyed the project and I think I learned quite a bit in the process.

Just a bit of an update as to what is currently happening with this rig. I'm in the process of setting up a second 580. I got one from NewEgg but of course it came without an IHS, so now an RMA is in process, gotta love EVGA support! So much nicer to deal with than other places. So when the new card gets here I'll post some pictures of the update. I'm also hoping to build something to cover over the power supply and pump to make things look neater at the bottom, so hopefully that can be part of the update. Stay tuned folks.

Looks pretty badass. I'm always paranoid about trying plumbing out, myself. Luckily my hearing is **** in the higher frequency ranges anyways, so I barely ever hear my fans over what I'm doing unless I crank everything for a bench run with iffy temps.

Luckily my hearing is **** in the higher frequency ranges anyways, so I barely ever hear my fans over what I'm doing unless I crank everything for a bench run with iffy temps. I grew up on a farm so I hear ya! Unfortunately, my hearing does something weird where the higher frequencies cause a second peak on my hearing tests. My hearing gets worse as frequency increases then starts climbing at some point and peaks again. It's messed up! @geek and @BlackArtz, thanks for the comments guys! When I install the second GPU I am planning on doing some cable lacing to really tidy things up! This will have to happen after midterms... I'm in my final year of engineering and things are getting intense right now!

+1 on the MDPC sleeving! Love those "Nils" package drawings. Great green/black contrast on the build. I have bounced the idea of that same helix fusion thingy many times but in red. Do you like that reservoir? I use the same CPU block, but in the red acrylic and love it, so far the best CPU block I have tried. I notice we are also using the same kind of mother board block, though I went with the clear/red acrylic adn yours is the matte black, its the same design. Do you alos find issues with air having an issue making that bend at the bottom? I have had to shake and twist myu rig may times to help those bubbles along. The thing I have to say about Koolance's water block I had for the Asus Rampage III was that they had an entry/ext at each end, made it better IMO for flow without trapping air, these EK W/B seem to have that issue in the bend. Because your block is not see through, you may not be seeing it. Great build though - well done and congratulations.

This was my first watercooling build so I really have nothing to compare too, but I couldn't be happier with it right now. I am going to be sitting on pins and needles waiting for the second card to come back from RMA with an internal heat spreader, going to use the EK SLI bridge (triple serial with one blank) to connect the two blocks. I think it'll look sweet!
