Hey. My SLI gtx 570's are having the core clocks cut in half. I have both of them oc'd to 800mhz, 1600mhz and 2000mhz. When I play a game however the core clock gets cut in half to 405mhz. Both of them are receiving the same amount of voltage and have the latest drivers. I'm at a loss on what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much in advance.

System specs please!  You can try this, go into NCP and choose Manage 3D settings, then look for Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration and choose Single display performance mode ( if you have 1 monitor).  THen go to Power management mode and pick, Pefer maximum performance.  Don't forget to hit apply in the lower right hand corner!  Post back and tell us how it goes.

Alright new problem. If I  enable power management to maximum performance, my temperates soar like crazy when I'm at my desktop. Is there I way so I can have it at maximum performance only in-game and not when I'm at my desktop?

Your 570's should downclock while not in 3D, you can confirm this by loading up Precision.  For instance as I type this my top card is at 34C running at 405mhz and my bottom card is at 32C and 51mhz.  If your cards are not acting this way while at desktop you might want to DL latest drivers...uninstall current drivers...reboot into safe mode...open Driver Sweeper...clean out all Nvidia GRAPHICS...reboot normal....load new drivers.

Already tried that man. Right now my core clock is jumping all over the place. It goes down to 51 for a couple of seconds  then goes up to 101 for both cards. It reached 405 on idle a couple of minutes ago. Something is seriously wrong here.

Also out of curiosity I checked how much my gpu load is while playing games and the highest it goes up to is 45% for both cards. This is unusual as it should be at 99% with maximum performance enabled.

yes, nvidia inspector 1.95 allows you to modify the powerstate workings.

    um. no.
GPU Load increases as processing increases, and infact the load reading actually reports lower load at higher clockrates than it does at lower clockrates while doing the same thing. (if its not ultimately hardware intensive that is).

the driver kicks up the clock rate based on the load %, which is why some people are having issues with it clocking down in game recently.

Not necessarily, it depends on the game and how well it is coded.  Crysis pegs my 580's at 98% or so but other games don't come close to that type of utilization.  Try not to look at it as a good thing that your cards are at 99%.  You are much better off if the game uses the cards less and gives great smooth framerates.

On the mhz jumping around, I have also noticed this and it seems to be normal, till you get into something then it uses the appropriate clocks.  What type of temps are you seeing?

Right now I'm at 56c idle after I increased the fan speed. 10 minutes ago it was around 80c on my desktop. I still can't figure out why my temps were rising like that when I wasn't running a game.

Set it back to ADAPTIVE in the Global profile then set it for Maxi Perf in the game profiles that cause you to have down clocking in. Fallout NV is one of them that does it.  Just to clear something up. Perfer Max Perf doesn't change the load on the GPU. All it does is more or less force 3D clocks under a lower load.

Ok right now the temperature is at 73c idle and continuing to rise after I reset my fan speed back to 40%. This has never happened before and I usually idle around 52c.

It's odd because the changes we made only affect 3D applications.....

When at the desktop and getting high temps, what speed are the cards running at?

That's the wrong setting. There is no need to do that globally. It should be set by game or application.

Try Heavy's idea because even though it should work, the other way is more specific.

That's because they are no longer clocking back down. You can just set a profile to use maximum performance for the individual game listed. That way, when you come back to the desk, it downclocks again.

EDIT: Go to program settings in the tab next to the one you were in. Then you can select, or browse for, your game. Then set it individually.

It must be a new issue with these drivers because all I did is what I recommended above and my cards downclock correctly when not in 3D and when gaming they crank right back up to my overclock.

I think it is. I never had to set them individually either, until the latest driver.

It depends. He might have something running that triggers it. It's easier just to do it by game/app.

Alright setting it through the application worked for me. As well as disabling maximum performance in global settings which brought my temps down.

Just a little problem with the NV control panel that it only seems to detect games that don't use steam. How would I go about configuring it so it detects steam games?

Thanks for all help by the way.

Not easier than setting globally but more precise and will most likely get him to his goal.

Under that same picture pull up program apps and steam should be one of them that you can adjust settings to.

Under that same picture pull up program apps and steam should be one of them that you can adjust settings to.

So if I adjust the Steam settings will it apply to every game?

that was fixed a long long long time ago. it used to act as a launcher, but the nvxd service applies to process launching now instead of attaching to the launcher.

Alright. Well it doesn't matter anyway because I got it to work with the control panel by adding the game executables.
So thanks everybody for all the help and hopefully I shouldn't encounter the same issue again.
