Lol wow I'm set, my Samsung monitor already has a yellowish reddish cast on the default profile. I'll just switch my monitor calibrator's utility to turn off the calibrated color profile hehe.

Got some stuff in a plastic box that's makes my screen turn on when I push the button on the front, cool. I think it's aliens, but I'll have to confirm with voodoo do-er on that.

I actually spoke to someone at length about this a few months back. They claim that the wavelength that we perceive as blue light makes it more difficult for us to fall asleep. He has the same or a similar program that automatically starts shifting the colors to an extremely yellow color scheme as the night progresses. He claims that it helps him sleep. I'm skeptical, but I haven't bothered to look it up as I have little to no issues falling asleep.

VistaHead I am trying it out now. I'm trying it now also. Made a big change in the color. I'm all for finding ways to help me get to sleep sooner. This is very interesting. Thanks for the post.

I too am test this and notice the difference. I feel more of the strain when its bright compared to how F.lux softens the display. Thanks for sharing this. I wonder if this maybe the cause of some eye problems?

I have had problems sleeping and started taking a melatonin supplement before going to bed. This does result in a better nights sleep. Maybe something like this would make it so I no longer need the supplement.

I have tried it, and I think that I will continue to use it. Of course, it is not going to make you sleepy, that is not what it is designed to do. It was designed for the following: " Humans evolved to respond to darkness by producing melatonin, the hormone that regulates the sleep cycle. But our light-sensitive pineal gland near the center of the brain responds to blue light by suppressing melatonin, causing us to wake up. When we see too much blue light in the late evening, it delays or disrupts the melatonin rush. But just as technology can cause this problem, it offers a solution as well. Enter F.lux, a desktop application that adjusts a computer screen's color throughout the day. During daylight hours, the screen's undertone is the familiar blue. As sundown approaches, it begins transitioning to a warm shade of red-orange. In the morning, it's cool blue again." I have been reading a few articles lately on the body's production of melatonin, and the need for it to sleep a deep sleep. I spend a lot of time in front of computers, both at work and at home, so I figured it can't hurt to try it for a while, and see if I notice a change in my sleep patterns. The program gave my screens a reddish/yellowishhue, but not unpleasant to the eye. I have a cable card tuner installed, and on the Hi-Def channels, it does make everyone appear to have a reddish/yellow undertone. On some channels it is more noticable than other channels. If it bothers me, I just select the 1 hour disable feature to watch the show. For a free program, it is not to shabby, however, time will tell on it's effectiveness. If I was a gamer, it would probably have more of an impact on whether or not I used, it and how much I used it.

I can't really tell if it helped as I only had 3 1/2 hrs of broken sleep. I'll keep testing to see if it does have an effect but I do notice the less strain on my eyes with this app.!

+1 It definitely reduces eye strain. For me, that alone is worth using it.

I'm still giving this a go. I did however makes some manual adjustments to the programs color/tinting. I set the daylight time to never be as bright as they let it get. That way if I do choose the disable for 1 hour option I don't get the full daytime bright blast. I also almost took it completely out of the halogen tint for nighttime. Hoping doing this will make me less likely to use the 1 hour disable feature.

But I thought that halogen tint is what you want to the lessen blue light?

Hum, unless it's a blue you do not detect with your eye sight. It does still look like I have the blue removed. EDIT: I just looked at the setting I have. It's at 3900k for night.

You are only 500k above the lowest setting, so I guess most of the blue is muted. What are you using for your daytime setting?

Since blue light reminds ourselves of daytime, our brains have a harder time shutting off. which is why people sleep better at night, because its dark. and our brain thinks its hard to sleep. As for the yellow helping...no idea. maybe yellow does something. idk.
