So WildDog and I have been working on getting my new rig stable at 4.2.  I tried everything that he has suggested which was all helpful but i can't seem to get anywhere else.  I'm totally new to the X58 series and I have read all the overclocking guides.  I'm still reading and rereading but I really want to get this thing up and folding ASAP!

Here is what I'm at thus far:

As far as stability testing I'm using LinX and IBT.  I don't think Prime95 cuts it anymore with the X58 series!

EVGA E758
GSkill 12GB
Evga GTX 780 SC

So how long does it last in LinX and IBT when you bump it up to 4.2?

You will probably have to up your Vcore more. From what I have gathered the 930's seem to want more voltage than the 920's did.

Are you on air? What are your temps reaching when you test it?

Yeah, your Vcore is a little low.  I would up it to 1.37 and work down from there.  QPI PLL needs to go up to 1.25.  CPU VTT is to high try to bring it down to 1.25 ish volts.  Try running the CPU PLL at 1.65v.  Again Vcore needs to come up quite a bit.  Try Dram ratio of 1600mhz and make sure uncore is set to 16x 3200mhz ish.  You should be good after that.  Looks like your very close since the shots are taken from windows and that means your at least getting into it.

Also their going to ask for a bios template - they always do - so you might want to post one.
Also what BSOD's are you getting?

P.S.  Keep in mind that Eleet is about as acurate as carpet bombing.  The voltages it shows, especially under load, are wrong!!  They can be off by quite a bit.  What you set in bios is what you get.  I've done tests with fluke meters and if you set 1.35v in bios you will get 1.35 volts in windows.  If you switch to without vdroop then it will ONLY go up .2 volts NO MATTER what Eleet says.  From the Fluke meter I got 1.37 volts at 100 percent load (bios setting 1.35V) and 1.42V from Eleet!!!!

Thats a software/driver issue. Has nothing to do with your OC.
If it was your OC you would be getting force restarts / blue screen.

Is that what always happens? I agree with ricolarules, that doesn't sound like it's OC related though.

I would say you still need more VCore. However, since your core temps are as high as they are, you might consider lowering your bclk a bit. Your VReg temp is up there also. You might consider adding a small fan in front of this heatsink.

For reference, BSOD 0x101 is tied to VCore and 0x124 could be either VCore or VTT.

I needed 1.375 VCore on mine. , your Vtt is only .02 lower than mine. However since every chip is difrent, What mine needed does not predict what yours will, also not every chip will do 4.2, my 920 will do it all day long, and I only paid $200 for it, ( Micro Center)  My 965 will not run stable above 4.0, ( wish I had known ) could have saved about $500.

Increase VCore by one increment at a time, stress test to look for improvement.  If no improvement, put VCore back to where increasing it was pointless and start increasing VTT (one increment, stress test and look for improvement).

Well I passed LinX.  VREG still hit around 80-85c.  I was able to put a fan on it so I'm not sure yet the improvement.

Ok guys as I had stated I'm coming back to working on 4.2.  I changed a few things in the bios and I want your input before I proceed with testing.  Let me know what voltages I need to go forward.  I'm following linuxrouter's guide as much as possible.

i would set the uncore speed manually. I might even add a touch of vtt. Your overclock looks very nice though.

Disable VDroop and I'd also go with a manual uncore frequency.  Don't increase voltages unless you find out you have to (by failing a stress test).  Remember uncore should be set to 2x or 2x+1 compared to your RAM divider.  Interesting overclock, I see you didn't take the easy way out and do 200 x 21 like I did on my i5 760.

The new BIOS setup looks pretty good.  You may want to bump up the ICH voltage a bit if you run into any unstable behavior in Windows. I know when I had my processor at bclk 221, that my USB ports including the mouse would start acting up.

If you do start seeing crashes while running Prime95 or LinX, I would suggest backing down the CPU multiplier to 17x temporarily in order to get the bclk stable first.

I tried running the above settings but it wouldn't boot.  So I went back to the beginning.
I ended up changing everything and started from scratch.  I went back to the top of the thread settings and adjusted voltages according.

Here is what I set but failed linX.

Did you get a BSOD or did linx error out?

You may also be able to lower your VTT some since you went back to bclk 200. Try +150mv.

BSOD with setting VTT to +150.  I got IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

I think that means that I need to increase VTT doesn't it?

Usually if your VTT is set too low, you will get a BSOD, often code 0x124. Your system may still need additional VCore for stability. Have you been able to get a lower frequency like 4.0 GHz stable and what was the VCore set at if so? Also, what are your core temps under load?

I'm hitting high 70's under LinX!  While folding I'm in the low 70's.

I added +25 but have done anything yet.  Waiting for your response before I proceed!

My advice would be to work down the bclk temporarily until your system is stable with the 1.36 VCore that your system is set to currently. We can then use that as a baseline to get an idea as to how much VCore is necessary for stability at 4.2 GHz. Try bclk 196 first.

Alright I'll give 196 bclk a go.  Do I need to leave all other voltages were they are?

Yes, I would leave the voltages as is for now.
