So you want to start folding? Great! The problem most users face when just getting started is what clients to install. This can be confusing thanks to the variety of options available: CPU/unicore client, SMP client, GPU2 client, GPU3 client, tray clients, console clients, and VMs. Thankfully, there is a much easier option. FAH GPU Tracker V2 is an interface for running multiple clients and a stats tracking system. In my opinion, using the Tracker is the easiest way to start folding. That said, on to the guide:

1. Download FAH GPU Tracker V2: 3.54 Stable

2. Extract the folder. You can put FAH GPU Tracker V2 in any folder, and move it anytime without problems.

3. Run FAH GPU Tracker V2.exe. Make sure you use "Run as Administrator" if you have UAC enabled.

4. The Tracker will prompt you to download clients, click yes to download the FAH clients from Stanford. If you clicked no by mistake, you can restart the Tracker or go to Config -> Download FAH Clients

You should see the Tracker downloading the clients. This may take some time depending on your internet connection.

5. Go to Setup -> Configure

6. Client Setup
Now you have to consider what you want to be folding on. If you want to fold on your CPU, and you have a CPU with at least 2 cores then you should use the multi-core SMP client. Otherwise you should use the single core CPU client.

The bigadv option (blue box) will only work on systems with 8 or more CPU threads. This option is only recommended for 24/7 folding rigs with a fast CPU. To change the number of cores that the SMP client will use, select "Use specified number of CPU cores" (yellow box) The advmethods option (green box) will enable the download of public beta WUs.

If you want to fold on your GPU(s) you can either click the Autodetect GPUs button (purple box, recommended for Nvidia users) or set up the clients manually. Nvidia 8-series and up, and ATI HD 2000 series and up all support GPU folding.

To set up the clients manually first Enable the GPU(s) you want to fold on. (red box)
The GPU3 Client setting (blue box) enables the GPU3 client for that GPU. The GPU3 client should only be used for Nvidia GTX 400 series cards. ATI 5000/6000 cards will require the ATI R700 force GPU (green box) with the GPU2 client in order to work. ATI 6000 cards may require the ATI R700 or ATI R800 force GPU when using the GPU3 client.

The force GPU section (green box) can be used later if you get a "GPU not supported" message when starting the client:

Which force GPU setting to use:
None: Use this if the client detects your GPU correctly
Nvidia G80: Nvidia 8 series - 300 series
Nvidia Fermi: Nvidia 400/500 series (need GPU3 for this option)
ATI R600: ATI 2000 series - 3000 series
ATI R700: ATI 4000 series - 6000 series
ATI R800: ATI 5000 series - 6000 series (Need GPU3 for this option)

7. Name/team/passkey/EOCID
The next step is to enter your name, team, passkey (optional, but highly recommended if running the SMP client), and EOCID (optional). The quick team select box (green box) will enter the team number of the selected team. If your team is not on the list, you can just enter the team number manually. If you do not have a passkey, you can get one by clicking on the word "Passkey" (red box). EOCID is your Extreme Overclocking Stats ID. This is optional, and the only thing it does is make the Stats -> View EOC Stats shortcut work. NOTE: To qualify for the EVGA Bucks promotion your folding name must match your EVGA login name.

8. Starting the clients
Before you start any clients, make sure your name and team number appear in the bottom bar on the main Tracker window. If not, make sure you hit apply before closing the configuration window. You can now start the FAH clients, but remember to start GPUs one at a time the first time you start them. This makes is much easier to find the cause of problems like the "GPU not supported" message.

That's it! If all your enabled clients run correctly then there is nothing else you need to change in the Tracker.

Since the Tracker monitors PPD including SMP bonuses, installing a separate program like HFM.NET or FahMon isn't required if you just want to see PPD. HFM.NET and FahMon do have capabilities that the Tracker doesn't, such as monitoring clients on other machines and generating HTML output.

Also, if you have a problem with the Tracker itself please post in the main thread and not in this guide.

Thank-You, Thank-You , Thank-You !!!. This seems to be working well, If I have no issues in two days, I'll switch all my machines. Easiest Folding setup I have ever done.

There is a little problem with forcing the r700 for ATI. Still does nto recognize states it doesnt support after putting the switch.

I found the cause of this. The force GPU settings were being applied to the normal client correctly but not to the client used to change client.cfg. This means that if client.cfg already has the correct name/team/passkey then this won't happen. I will be releasing 3.15 with a fix to this problem in a few minutes. (no other changes)

The odd thing is that this problem has been present since 3.00. That was when I introduced using FAH clients to update client.cfg instead of doing it directly (for FAH EULA reasons) The odd part is that nobody noticed it until now.

    OK.. Outstanding tool!!!

    Using in two 470FTW's

When I did this... Only my first GPU client would work. When I asked it to start the second GPU I got the error of not supported.. Then tried to close the error box about 20x's and failed. Had to click the stop button in the box under the error box.

Anyway. I stopped all clients and went back into the config, selected Fermi (Was on none) and restarted. So far so good.

Do we run in SLI or not SLI on 470's now?

Only thing i have to add is with the 400 series it is suggested to use the -advmethods flag if your not already.

Folding with 2-way SLI is fine. I have been running FAH on my GTX 480s in SLI without problems. The only odd part is that while in SLI GPU0 and GPU1 are reversed. So GPU0 in the Tracker = physical GPU1 (and also GPU1 in Rivatuner/EVGA Precision/MSI Afterburner)

Perfect... Thank you... One more question... When using this tool will it give us the -bigadv and -adv if we put the passkey in? Or is this just the lower ppd clients that it installs?

Bigadv is supported by the Tracker and itworks fine, just check the box here:

Also, that checkbox will be greyed-out if the Tracker detects less than 8 threads. (adding -bigadv won't work anyway without 8 threads) The CPU detection is new so there may be bugs I missed. Speaking of which, could someone with an SR-2 or other dual-socket motherboard post the CPU detection results? I THINK that the detection will work correctly but I don't have the hardware to verify this.

Excellent thank you... Mine was grayed out (And the reason for the question) but this is because I am already running a client using the 8 cores. So this makes since... Thank you...

The stats will show "no data" until at least 1 WU is completed. The Tracker only saves stats when WUs are complete.

Now that I verified that the code I am using to do this works as expected, I have decided to move forward with adding this feature.......

This is still in development, so I haven't even released a beta with it yet. A public release is still at least a week away.

Quick question, does this run everything out of the folder it is put in or is it put on your primary hard drive? I ask because I don't want this stuff running on my ssd.

For example if I put it in a folder on my E: drive is it going to install and run out of that folder or is it going to install and run off of my C: ?

Quick question, does this run everything out of the folder it is put in or is it put on your primary hard drive? I ask because I don't want this stuff running on my ssd.

For example if I put it in a folder on my E: drive is it going to install and run out of that folder or is it going to install and run off of my C: ?

Let me know if I am not making sense here.

The Tracker runs all the clients out the the same folder it is in. So if you don't want it running clients on your SSD you need to put the Tracker exe on your E:\ drive.

You can also move your existing folder to another drive without causing problems (if you have it setup already)

Awesome, that is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Amazing program by the way.. It's so easy a caveman could do it.

Can you make it so the team # is hard locked, to 111065, so if another team uses this, they fold for Us ? ( only change I'd make. )

jedi95, this application is great. I am new to folding but recently stumbled upon this and got it running and have a couple of questions...

I was previously running the GPU2 client alone and had completed 20 WU, is there any way to transfer the data from them over to the new files of the tracker? - I know its on the Stanford website but it would be nice to see in the program too.

Also, is there anyway to get the viewer to work when using this program (I just like the pictures).

    Thanks for a great app.
