Anyone here into rocketry? That pic is the rocket I earned my L1 cert on... H123 with an 8 second delay

Yea when I was young I built quite a few ! Made my own double launch pad, also made a launch switch out of a brake switch off a car.Built all my own ships. I think I built 4. I got bored very easy. Last launch was with a free fall recovery ship with the largest motor estes built (At that time ) C-6-5 I think. Never seen it after 2nd launch went outa site and never came down in my veiwing area. LOL Found someones elses rocket but not mine ! What you have to have some form of freq licence now ? Such bs the government comes up with just to have fun. Wait till when you have to have a licence to have killer roaches.LOL

Depending on motor and conditions up to 3500.. You only need a license or certification for High powered motors... It goes by newtons.. You can fly most Gs and all Fs and under with no certification... It used to be private certs until some kid blew his hand off using black powder then the ATF came in regulating composite motors... Tripoli and NAR are lobbies for our hobby and they said they'll regulate anything over Hs and do a cert as they almost completely outlawed rocketry after that and when some idiots were pointing the rocket at someone's house... That's why when people attack lobbyist I get defensive as my great hobby wouldn't be here it's also under attack right now... Plus you have to get FAA waivers for HPR...

I was when I was a kid. I made one that had an attached glider on it I tested and tested the glider off of my second story deck until it was perfect. This was before the space shuttle was a reality but it sort of looked like it. Me and a group of my friends launched it one day. It went up perfectly. The only problem was that it took forever to come down. When I say that it was up for over an hour, I am not kidding. We chased that thing for miles!! Forty years later, I still can remember what fun it was!!

If you do single deployment you time the delay right and depending on the wind choke the chute... I do avionics and dual deployment now... My most recent rocket broke the 10,500 ft fas waiver on accident.... On the west coast at places like Black Rock Nevada the waiver is 100,000+... After 25,000 you should have GPS tracking on it...

Never got THAT into it. I started getting bored and jamming bigger motors into smaller ones then loosing them.... Was fun to launch, wanted to get into the larger ones, couldn't afford it so I lost interest.

A few years back, I use to love building my own rockets. My first high-powered rocket I couldn't go above the G motors, so I clustered it into 3x. The rocket design took after a maverick missile and was successful launched and recovered with little damaged. Everything on that rocket was engineered by me, no pre-built plans to go. I still have it, collecting dust in my guest room. I've built a smaller version of it before, but on launch, turned into a lawn dart and set the grass on fire. My last attempts were to get Estates models to go supersonic on a single G80, none of them survived past supersonic. As for sugar rocket motors, was doing some testing on those, tricky little devils. Nozzle would clog from time to time and they would exploded. I have found a solution to that problem, but that is when I decided to sideline the hobby for the time being. Below are the only 2 photos I got of the Maverick missile powered by 3x Aerotech G40 Whitelightings.

Nice! There is one F and a couple G motors that require an L1 cert to launch and buy... Yours what right at a low-mid H motor with the 120 newtons...

I was originally planning to launch the Maverick on 3x G80, but decided that it might be too high of initial thrust with only a 1sec burn. So I went with 3x G40 with a 3sec burn. Glad I did, what a beautiful shot that photo came out to be with the white trailing smoke. I still have some Aerotech motors unused in an ammo can somewhere in my house. I also have the reusable E-F Aerotech motor for the smaller rockets.

You still launch? I'm looking for some RMS hardware lol.. Yeah I wanted to make sure I remembered the correct formula... To find the burn staying l duration your take average thrust divide it by impulse...
Like a G had a max 160 Newton Seconds of impulse
A G40 has 40 newtons of thrust... So to find duration you just divide Impulse by Thrust
So a G40 has a 4 second burn time slow and low! That was just for everyone else you seem to know this stuff... Yeah after researching it can get confusing... An H has a max of 320 then an I a max of 640... I think you get the picture...

The G80's at the time were the max thrust I could buy. It really depends on the total newton thrust you want, the first letter (A,B, C, D, E, so on). And the average thrust characteristics, the number after the letter. But I don't just judge a rocket motor by those numbers alone, I like to see the thrust burn chart to see where the thrust is averaging at. Like on the G80's that I have used before, all the thrust is used in 1sec. Great for fast liftoffs and speed, but puts a lot more strain on the motor plate. While the G40's had a nice flat thrust curve with a gentle drop off past 3sec burn. There was even a G38 with a longer burn time and lower thrust, but I couldn't get ahold of a third motor for the launch, so I used them in a single motor rocket. I remembered the RMS hardware size, it is 24mm/40. I use the RMS motor to get better flights out of the Estates rockets.

Yeah it goes A has 1.25 Newton Seconds then B is 2.5 and C is 5 the impulse doubles for each letter.. An O is 40,960...

What about RC cars, planes, or helicopters? I have an RC Nitro Buggy and 3 RC electric helicopters. When I was younger, my brother and I had a few model rockets using Estes engines. We also made some of our own using homemade match head engines and homemade gunpowder. We sort of got tired of it after a while though.

Carbon Fiber really isn't that expensive it's when you pay someone to make a carbon fiber airframe that gets expensive... I like fiberglass personally.. I'm building a scratch Patriot out of Blue Tube now setup for dual deployment... Tyger I like RC as well just ordered an RC10B4.2

Yeah carbon fiber is used to fix foundations and structural issues... It's strong and will stand up to the biggest motors...
