im getting a random freeze and the bios reports x26 when it should be x25 (CPU speed multiplier) everything is running on auto except the multiplier witch is set to x25 (all stock) turbo is off as for the freeze ive ran memtest86 (every stick separately for 5 passes and together for a few hours no errors ) ive also tried linx and prime95 no errors (highest setting on both) i have changed to a different psu and it still freezes it freezes in both ubuntu and windows 7, vista, xp it freezes randomly 0-10 times a day it does not matter what im doing. (ive tried changing the sata cable on the ssd it helped a little but did not solve the problem ive tried both my gtx 470s it still freezes on both. i may try my 7950 gpu later to see if its the gtx 470s it be nice if i could find a way to read the north bus temp in windows so i can see if its thats whats causing the freezes also ambant temps in my room very between 19c to 22c below is whats in my computer (sorry if it shows up weird paste put boxes and undo would not remove the boxes) ive added 1 fan (to cool the north bus and voltage regulator) 1 main drive Corsair CMFSSD-128GBG2D P128 Solid State Drive - 128GB, 2.5", SATA II MPN: CMFSSD-128GBG2D 1 EVGA X58 SLI Classified Motherboard - LGA 1366, Intel X58, SATA, SLI Ready, CrossFireX Ready, Triple Channel DDR3, RAID, Hyperthreading MPN: 141-BL-E760-A1 1 Intel BX80613i7980X Core i7 980X Extreme Edition Processor - 3.33GHz, LGA 1366, 6.4GT/s QPI, 12MB L3 Cache, Six Core, HyperThreading, Gulftown, Retail CPU w/ Fan MPN: BX80613i7980X 2 (12gb 6 sticks) Corsair Core i7 Dominator 6GB PC12800 DDR3 RAM - Tri Channel, 1600MHz, 6144MB (3 x 2048MB), DHX MPN: TR3X6G1600C8D 2 EVGA 012-P3-1472-AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) SuperClocked Video Card - 1280MB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, Dual DVI, HDMI, SLI, DirectX 11 im only running one the other is a spare (running it in another pc (my spare parts pc lol) MPN: 012-P3-1472-AR 1 Corsair CWCH50-1 Hydro H50 CPU Liquid Cooler - 120mm Fan, Copper Cold Plate, Aluminum Radiator, LGA775, LGA1366, LGA1156, AM2/AM3 2 raided Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200 RPM, 32MB, SATA-300 MPN: WD1001FALS TD 1 Thermaltake Toughpower XT 850-Watt ATX 2.3 Power Supply MPN: W0224RU

ive never ran it long enough in safe mode to find out. i guess ill find something i can do in safe mode although sometimes freezes can take hours to a day to occur. i can just leave windows running and it won't freeze although sometimes it will. unless the ubuntu live cds count as safe mode if they do it freezes on them as well but less often.

If it still freezes with an entirely different OS then running in Windows safe mode is more or less a waste of time. You've got some kind of hardware issue. What are your CPU temps? Did you set the memory timing manually or use AUTO? I would help a lot if you could list your BIOS settings. Here's a template to use. Just write down your settings then fill them in with your own info. I suspect with 12GB memory, you made need to loosen the timings a bit. Not uncommon. Are you using E-Leet to OC? Did you "enable brink O/C"? That's what it sounds like is happening here. "all auto except the CPU multiplier which is set to x25 but bios says its x26 (windows confirms thats its running at x26)" Then where are you reading 26? It's what the BIOS says that really counts, but E-Leet and CPU-Z sould say your true real-time multipliers; don't go by what Windows reports, it only reports stock specifications. Also, if your BIOS setting is "auto," then tell us that instead of only what the BIOS has picked at the moment. Why are you wasting your mem speed? Set mem freq to 2:12. And you will get better performance from "Max payload 4096."

Glad to help out :-) I have the same memory (only 6 Gb though) currently running 8 8 8 24 74 1T on my 920 DO at 3.8 184 QPI, which keeps my memory underclocked at around 1470. You should be able to run the same settings except for the 1T command rate.

i have the bios set to x25 (but it uses x26) if i try x24 it will go to x24 then when i set it back to x25 it goes to x26 lol it's a odd problem. if i pull the ram to 1 stick it will hit x25 again then if i put it all back in it will reset to x26 after a few reboots. my cpu-z banner is what it is in windows (it use to be x25) i put what the bios selected just in case what it selected is to high or low. i have no programs running to overclock my cpu they make my graphics cards fan stay at 40% which is bad lol also im not trying to overclock at least not yet anyways i don't want to break components till i can replace them (lack of funds) lol the ram timing worked! the last time i tried to put a ram timing in my pc refused to post... lol time will tell if the freezes stop or not thanks for the help ill post back if it freezes again (im testing for 3 days cause it can go that far with no freezes in some cases)

That's bc your CPU default multi is 25, and that's where turbo mode works. You see, when you set to 24 (and turbo off), then reboot into BIOS and set 25, the BIOS automatically turns on turbo mode, and you get 26 from turbo mode. If you then reboot and read your BIOS, looking at turbo mode, you will see it is on, regardless of the fact that you did not turn it on. But if you increase to 26x or more, turbo can be turned off.

Is your GTX470 OCd? If so, does WOW freeze when you go back to stock settings? Regardless, try IOH 1.2V, and ICH 1.15V. You aren't running IMSM (Intel Matrix Storage Manager), are you?

Main (gaming) rig: i7-3930K; Asus Rampage IV Extreme; H100 W/p-p Excaliburs, AS5; MSI 7870 2GD5/OC; Crucial M4 SSD 256GB. See my primary ModsRigs: Adam for the rest, and I have a second (wife's) rig Asus Rampage III Extreme & 960: Eve. Overclocking is useless to me if it is not rock stable.

Run GPU-Z with logging turned on, then after a freeze read the log just before the time of the freeze, and see what your GPU temps were. The market is filled with OCd computers and gfx cards that aren't always stable. Just bc EVGA sold it as OCd doesn't mean it is 100% stable on 100% of the cards they sell. Don't make the mistake of assuming yours cannot be unstable at the recommended preset OC settings. Even better, test it with Furmark (MSI) Kombuster Xtreme burn mode (the fuzzy donut) for 30 minutes.

So you are running two. Sorry I missed that in your OP. Don't you know that when you run two, it is strongly advised that you turn your IOH up to at least 1.2V? Try 1.3V.

Yes, try IOH 1.2 (for one gfx card) and ICH 1.15V. What about IMSM? You should be running IRST instead.
