Hi!, yodap ...we need more team8s with GPUs to crunch Collatz Conjecture project as it's also straightforward to install and setup.

Note: If anybody prefer not to perform Collatz Conjecture CPU tasks (since doing so would derail your other projects CPU based tasks), please UNtick the checkbox of "mini-collatz" that can be accessed from the project's preferences.

No, you would uncheck Use CPU towards the top of the page....  They have standard colltaz and mini-collatz units for both cpu and gpu....  Only uncheck mini collatz or collatz if you don't want to run one of those.  Use the Use CPU and GPU boxes towards the top of the preferences page....

If you do go with Collatz, which I think is probably a good spot for it, watch the GPU usage %. If it is lower than 80%, I would suggest downloading the app_info.xml file that linuxrouter posted earlier in this thread. My GPUs were at 40-50% running the regular collatz before and now they are pegged at 90%.

Thanks again linuxrouter!

If the goal is the top 10, then anything where our score is < 9,500 should be considered worth pursuing

That's a good long-term goal, but we are looking at what we can do in the two weeks we have before the Folding Madness starts. I was personally looking at anything under 5000 needs an immediate push, and anything between there and 7500 can can use some assistance if there are any resources left. Again, that's just my personal approach, yours may be different.

Thanks MOBAJOBG!
The gts450 finished folding first so that one is running now along with Malaria control on the cpu.

Guess who the #1 team in Malaria control is?
That's right......................moo!

edit: I'll look at what you suggest rjb.

ok..I have malaria control on two I7's crunching on all threads..Collatz on a 470, two 450's and two 275's...
Also, setup and crunching on OGR-27 with a I7 970.. all 12 threads pounding away nicely..
Doing a little folding still with two borg 275's.. will leave those alone. I have one other I7 crunching WCG general purpose stuff right now. Any suggestions as to what to assign it to? I tried enigma and all I get is communication deferred. Servers are up, don't know what's happening there..
If anyone knows where we are lacking currently, I'd be happy to put my efforts towards that project.
This is fun!!

I've got a couple days worth of OGR that'll (hopefully) appear on the next dnetc update.

I'll be switching to Prime Sierpinski soon.  Been figuring that out while running OGR.

If anybody experienced "Error while computing" while doing GPU task for Collatz Conjecture using NVIDIA graphic cards, it's because of old drivers so please proceed to download and then, update to the latest 285.62 WHQL drivers accordingly.

Re:"Plundering the DC Vault" - strategy thread 2012/02/18 17:17:20 (permalink)
My turn to ask for help on OGR!    You Linux gurus in the house, help me fire up the client on a resurrected C2D.   I wanted to dabble in Linux, so I grabbed Ubuntu 10 something and it installed fine.  So then I grabbed the [x86/ELF/uclibc] v2.9110.519 build found here.  I extracted the files to my /home/USERNAME/public directory.  I checked permissions on the executable file, and it will allow me to execute the file.  However, if I right click and choose "Open", nothing happens.  Same thing if I double click the file.  I checked the task manager and there's not even a blip when I hit "Open".  What am I doing wrong?  Feel free to point and laugh.

/edit - Ok, I made progress, but am still not there.  From the terminal I had to do a sudo apt-get which downloaded a package.  Then I could launch the client from the terminal.  I was able to run the configuration and I have an .ini file.  However, now I get this message and it shuts down.

[Feb 19 01:43:09 UTC] Loading crunchers with work...
[Feb 19 01:43:09 UTC] Attempting to resolve 'us.v29.distributed.net'...dnetc: relocation error: /lib/libnss_files.so.2: symbol __rawmemchr, version GLIBC_2.2.5 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference

/edit2 - I'm up and running!  After receiving the above error message when launching via the terminal, I right clicked the client icon and choose "Open".  That immediately spiked my cpus, and a buff-in.og2 file was created.  However, I had no window telling me what was taking place.  So from the terminal, i ran dnetc - shutdown which gave me the message that the dnetc client had been successfully shutdown.  Then from the terminal I typed "dnetc" to launch it, and voilà!  The terminal displays output like I'm used to seeing in the Windows world. I'd still really appreciate a Linux guru explaining the process to me and what exactly I did to get myself here.

mflanaga, yes we need a champion for RNA World project and if you're up to it please refer to kawika57's post 52 earlier in this thread for its setup.

I'm suggesting this for you because it seems to me that there're a few projects in our attack list which have encountered from sporadic to the lack of work units availability and some non-BOINC projects which may be a hassle to setup.

This is a known problem with Ubuntu Lucid and the build of glibc that it comes with which I believe is 2.11.1. The symbol __rawmemchar is missing from the library that some applications depend on. I was able to fix this by compiling glibc from the original unaltered source code. I suspect the library that this symbol otherwise would be in has been stripped. You might try running apt-get update and see if there is an update for the libraries.

planetclown, I'm glad that you've joined the Prime Sierpinski project.

I notice that you've completed 8 double check tasks, please carry on/continue with it as you're doing great while I'm still working on 2 first pass tasks & a double check task ~50% and ~99% in progress respectively.

I'm having trouble getting linuxrouter's config file for Collatz to work.  I put it in the correct directory and have it set to 0.5 for two instances, but I'm still only seeing 40% utilization.  Is there something else I need to do?

Two tasks are shown as downloading in the task window but are stuck at 0%.  In the transfers window, collatz and minicollatz .exe's, and cudart .dll are pending download, also stuck at 0%.

You will need to let those files download first before installing app_info.xml. I would shutdown BOINC, remove app_info.xml, startup BOINC and let everything download for Collatz. Then shutdown BOINC again and reinstall the app_info.xml and startup BOINC.
