The issue I'm experiencing is that two GTX 1070 cards (with a bridge) are installed on the motherboard, but only one card is being detected.
I've been trying to find a method for manually setting the number of lanes to each card as I suspect that may be the issue's cause.

Do you have the cards installed in the correct slots?  According to the manual you can do slots 1+3, 3+5, or 1+5 for 2-way SLI.  Boot mode will also need to be set to one of the UEFI options.

What is the Yellow Mark under Device Manager showing?
If Error 43 then set your Bios to Legacy Mode for your Graphics and retest (CSM Enabled (Maybe))

It might be time for a New Motherboard!

True @ x16 3-Way SLI™ in slots 1, 3 and 5 when slots 2 and 4 are not occupied. Yes you only are using 2 Cards.
What other PCIe Cards do you have installed?

Do both cards work when individually tested?

I found the problem. Though the cards are mounted in slots 1 and 5, slot five has a defective lock-in mechanism. The card won't seat properly. I'm considering moving the second card to slot 3, but I'm seriously concerned about overheating the card. I've experienced issues about that in the past, and have no desire to revisit that vomitous situation. Has anyone ever repaired a slot locking mechanism?

These cards do have two fans, on the other hand. However I am planning to use both cards for full-time folding. I don't want the heat issue causing semiconductor breakdown. Does anyone have experience with folding on two gtx 1070s in adjacent slots?

The rig is housed in a CoolerMaster HAF tower.

To complicate matters further I only have the bridge device for three-way or two-way SLi across a wider distance. Would this bridge work for slot 1 & 3 configuration?

3-way sli bridge should work fine. Time to get some blower style coolers for your cards.
