I have a X99 Classified and I'm looking at the new M.2 drives from Samsung.

Are they compatible with my motherboard?

The 950 Pro works just fine in my X99 Classy, so unless Samsung changed the NVME standard then the 960 should work fine as well.

The interface is listed as: PCIe 3.0 x4, NVMe 1.1

Just making sure my M.2 slot is x4 (can't find that info in my MB manual)

You'll want to grab a PCIe adapter for any M.2 SSD PCIe 3.0 x4 since the M.2 interface on the X99 Classifieds is unfortunately only PCIe 2.0 x4.

If this m.2 drive is for pleasure (gaming) and not an IOPS intensive database server you will see no difference if you use the onboard m.2 or a PCIE 3.0 adapter - http://forums.evga.com/EV...ad-Times-m2556132.aspx

And if someone doesn't believe the work that I and other reviewers have done, then I challenge you to do the work and show us the results.

Challenge in what form: pistols, rapiers or something in between? :D

Seriously tho. HarryD. You can get Kingston Hyper Predator X (or whatever it's convoluted name is) M.2 which works in Gen.2 mode for less without need for adapter, but of course it's up to you. For gaming it makes no difference whatsoever . It's available right now unlike 960Evo/Pro. Also betting good money that price will be very competitive compared to brand-new NVMe devices from Samsung.
