Hello everyone! I've been away for quite some time now! Academic Affairs and lots of medicine books to study.. keep me away! Finally i have a chance to upgrade my old rig.. but as i am a bit far off the current market nowadays, i sure need your advice on this one! i need a new CPU, MOBO and RAM! currently i already have a nice EVGA GTX 760 SC >> so i got that part covered! i am in a struggle due to the quad core vs hexa core dilema! why? some say hexa-core is a better bet from 2016 and on.... as other say quad core is still enough... others say the best would be something between both! ( the last seems more true! tho there is no penta-core cpus! :P) a hexa core would require a new mobo and of course a new bugdet and a expensive one at that...... as far as my little knowledge today.. i know the only hexa cores may be the new broadwell-E ( core i7 68XX with socket 2011-v3) that came out.. and they are ridiculously expensive (minimum 500€ and above) initially i was going for a 4790K ( devil's canyon ) but it would require an old mobo for that one so.. i though of something newer and similar/ bit better in performance and went for this : i confess the budget is already a bit high! the rig is for work and gaming ( at 2560x1600) of course! you can see my set up on my sig. tho some OC settings are not the same anyone as the 780i mobo is degrading fast... would apreciatte a bit of your time to advise me on this one! fell like a noob again! thanks! PS: no evga mobos on the usual store i buy witch is really strange considering there is no shortage of evga graphics cards!

I think this would be a better choice of motherboards and save you some money: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132566I doubt you will be running 3-way or 4-way SLI especially trying to get additional GTX-760 video boards for it. Your CPU is a good choice. It is the latest but IMO it is a little overpriced. If you plan on running three or more video boards then an X99 motherboard would be the way to go with a CPU that has 40 PCI-E lanes.

thank you so much for you advice! indeed the CPU price is a bit off! even the 4790K is still around 350€!!! intel is been very greedy lately ... but nothing new on that field... xD no 3 way sli.. so no more lanes are needed! this cpu has 28 lanes i believe... but maybe just 2-way SLI in near future! i know this cpu wont bottle neck 2 gtx760?? do not think so..... :P ( and maybe the PSU can handle it?!) as per you suggestion you are 100% right! i was led to the same choice meanwhile and made a new budget that's more easy on the wallet: i think i am done! thanks in advance!

Maybe he want better motherboard if his plan is to keep i7-6700K overclocked. On first place I think you need to change memory kit, paying 390E for 16GB Dominator Platinum is INSANE. If you can buy from German sites there are many better solutions and you can buy 32GB for almost half money. For Z170 I think better to look 2x8 or 2x16GB kits, but if you want all memory slots full... OK. ASUS Z170 WS is great motherboard mostly for 2-3 graphic cards. You can check some gaming motherboards as Maximus VIII Hero, Maximus VIII Gene, ASUS Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1. I would not go on cheapest and most expensive boards for i7-6700K. Maximus VIII Hero Alpha cost 270 euro and you will not find better gaming/overclocking motherboard except Formula and Extreme but they are too expensive and you don't need them 99%. Example i7-6700K Maximus VIII Hero ALPHA or Maximus VIII Hero For memory best if you can find something from this list but not expensive, you don't need more than 3000/3200 Example GSkill F4-3000C15D-16GTZ F4-3200C16D-16GTZ F4-3200C16D-16GVK My Choice: i7-6700K Maximus VIII Hero 210-220euro (60euro cheaper than ALPHA version) https://geizhals.at/asus-...0-m0eay0-a1306339.html GSkill Trident Z 4x8GB 3200MHz 190 euro QVL for Hero and all slots are full https://geizhals.at/g-skill-trident-z-dimm-kit-32gb-f4-3200c16q-32gtz-a1345306.htmlhttp://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3200c16q-32gtz

That CPU has 16 PCI-E lanes which is plenty for dual-SLI at x8 for each video board plus it has an onboard x4 PCI-E controller for the third PCI-E slot. I have had good performance and stability from MSI motherboards and they are always my first choice lately.

only 16 lanes? oh well... im sure its enough!! ive had one msi mobo in the past before evga. great mobos indeed! AND... on a side note... i've just noticed the GeForce 1000 series have been released... went take a peak at the prices.... and they are insane!!! HAS the world gone mad??? seriously?? if they keep these prices up for pc gaming..... console gaming will win... eventually!

I think price will drop, yes this is abnormal behavior of NVIDIA. But every normal person will tell you buy NVIDIA after AMD launch their premium models. Edit: Only we still don't need to think about console. If situation become worse we will always find some Radeons and play. Many people play games on few years old R9-290X 8GB CF... R9-290X was 300 euro used before 2 years in my country. Some small mATX board, 3-4 years with same i7 and we can play games. NVIDIA become really for people with deeper pocket. Almost 1000 euro for mid range card... They are not normal. R9-290X is still excellent in DX12. When people tell on beginning price of Pascal 599$ is great... I told them You only see number 5 on beginning and nothing else, you think that's 500$ but price will be up to 800euro in Europe, you will see, and that happen. 550 euro will be price for GTX1070.

Did you plan to replace GPU with something from Pascal generation. GTX1080 should cost 550-600 euro after GTX1080Ti and AMD show up.

Did a final review on this set up! this is my last change on the budget! i am ALMOST sure i can fit that noctua cooler in my case and .... almost sure those DDR4 mems wont be a issue because they are both on G.skill and MSI compatibility list for that specific mobo.

Looks like a nice set-up, seems a bit excessive for your video card set-up. I would actually suggest looking into the i3 6300 or i5 6600K and put more money towards a newer video card. Something like a GTX 970 or higher. It would be a lot better than a pair of GTX 760's in SLI... SLI isn't fully supported in all games and it has a lot of short falls.

Kaby lake is releasing right around the corner with the flagship cpu being the i7- 7700k. Kaby lake supports 4 more pcie lanes than skylake, and has compatibility for 3d xpoint memory. Then launching at the same time is the i7- 6785R, which is skylake with 128mb L4 cache that acts as a buffer for your vid card that results in significantly boosting your min fps. Wait one more year and the kaby lake version will launch. Also, its better to hold out and buy a new gpu than to go SLI with 760s due to dx12, DP1.4, and more.

i really do want the gtx970 ssc... but its a whooping 350€ right now! and indeed it is the best for my set up... for now the 760 will have to do. ( and it does not disappoint... im actually surprised with its performance.) as you can see my set up changed a bit. thew shop did not had some parts.. so i bought a bit slower mem and another cpu cooler but within same performance range.. thank you for your advice.

intel has always something new around the corner.. unfortunately i am planning this set up for 2 years now.. and its finally time i pulled the trigger. it was time.. my old rig was slow.. really slow... issues with the mobo... etc... the new haswell 2011 v3 socket are ridiculously expensive... 500€+ range and i do not pay over ~350€ for a single pc part... the 6700K @ 4.5 Ghz will do fine i am sure... and it was expensive... 350€ for this cpu.. too expensive for a quad core if you ask me... as per graphics, as i stated above.... the gtx970 ssc would be a nice match for my new rig. but its another whooping 350€.. everything is expensive.... maybe soon the 900 series prices will go down with the gtx1000 released?? who knows... thank you very much for your feedback

as promised the pics of my rig! a nightmare to set up this BEQuiet cooler... how i miss noctua mounting process... ( the ssd in my sig was a gift 2 years ago... only mounted it last week hehehe) the pc Parts The cpu already in place the cpu cooler is reallly really really big! it almost prevented me from inserting my mem into the 2nd slot.. temps go from the 30's to 80ºc at full load (prime 95test but when gaming wont go near 70ºc...) already checked) the G.skill mems seem to be produced last month new set up vs old one (gfx is the same) :P everything inside the case all connected and ready to go! ni issues found! it went smooth since the first power up! and the cpu oc'ed nicely with no issue! unfortunately the side panel tha comes with the cooler master stacker 830 did not fit due to the size of that cpu cooler.. so i lost all side ventilation ( 3x120mm vents)... but temps seem fine so far... and its summer... did a 3dmark fire strike v1.1 test with standard settings and got 6442 score if not mistaken! not bad i guess.... for a single gtx760. ;) im in 24th position for a single gtx670 + icore7 6700K ( the scores changes if i oc the mem speed a bit further..) http://www.3dmark.com/fs/8952903 thank you all for your advice!
