Let's forget about the runaway company vehicle, I'll get fired if I lose my scanner!

He doesn't look like Superman to me, not much he could do until the vehicle stopped rolling. Might as well start picking up the pieces including the scanner. I bet the truck was still running too.

He instantly gave up.. I would have tried chasing it, But since it was going backwards his would run the risk of running himself over if he got caught by the door and fell, But still... Should've at least acted concerned.

The person did not instantly give up. Get your eyes checked. He tried all the way to the intersection.

He tried for 20 feet and look how far it got... instead of running with it to try to catch up, He just stopped and picked up the scanner, didn't give a rats ass if there was anyone around that might have gotten injured.

Throwing insults to prove your point is the way to go I see.

or maybe I don't see, Because you know? I have to get my eyes checked.

So now it's "20 feet" instead of "instantly gave up", you're making progress. Oh sorry if telling you to get your eyes checked felt like an insult, I'll try to be more gentle when I reply to you, but you are way off base when you said he didn't try. We are humans, we make mistakes, like this person. It sucks what happened, the person did what they could to stop the vehicle. It didn't hurt anyone, but yeah go ahead and rip into the person some more. Does make you feel good to do that?

I'm going to put some of the blame on FedEx here. They should require the vehicle to be shut off during the delivery and parking brake applied. Their employees should be given time to properly park the vehicle. They should pay their delivery drivers better too.

I think there was a risk that the person might have ended up being sandwhiched between the door and the tree while attempting to climb into the seat if the person had not 'given up'. That would have been a much greater tragedy.

But, the person shouldn't have been driving a commercial vehicle with a bulb (right headlight) burnt out in the first place. That's around a $50 fine and the law enforcer can order the vehicle to be placed out of service (parked on the side of the road) until the problem is fixed. Safety violations are a lot stricter for commercial vehicles. It would be hard to explain to your supervisor why your van is parked on the side of the road full of undelivered packages because you didn't do a pre-trip and get the problem fixed at the delivery hub that morning.

I am glad everyone is OK.  Good thing he gave up, because he could have tripped or fallen and been seriously injured.
