Hi,
Always been interested and kind of off and on folding. I finally found a way to contribute. I work with servers at work and we have been using a stress program to load the servers, but I figured we might as well load the servers with something useful so now I'm using the folding program on 5/6 servers with dual xeon processors no graphics cards. Work is kinda excited with it because then we could put the bucks toward gfx cards to fold on some of our other machines.
As long as I see the points on my folding page, then everything is going fine right?
I used to get only like 20k/week with just my desktop. These servers are running at 100k/day (supposedly according to one full 24 hr day during my burn in test) :D
I am currently using a terminal only folding program so if you have any tips about running folding servers in ubuntu that would be helpful. Also is there more micro adjustments than medium, full etc. I'd like to find a way to incrementally play with the CPU load when we want to run other tests.
Welcome aboard Gumibears!! Folding is an excellent way to stress test any PC or Server. From what your shared, it appears that your work is on-board with allowing Folding and this is good because that is a requirement (from Stanford). They require that any corporate Folding is approved by the company that owns the equipment. So, good stuff and other companies (large and small) have used Folding to do stress testing.
Couple of things to consider for your points. Make sure that you have a Passkey (from Stanford) because it is optional when you sign up and request a Folding Username. With a Passkey, after you have processed 10 WUs that support QRB (Quick Return Bonus), you can qualify for Bonus Points on those WUs . Also make sure that your Forum Name here is the same as your Folding Username if you want to earn the EVGABucks rewards. That is an EVGA requirement for EVGABucks, not a F@H requirement. Also, log-into the EVGA website, go into "My EVGA", then "My Profile" and make sure that your "EVGA Folding Name" is entered on that profile page.
Please feel free to post any technical questions that you have in our Main Folding Forum or over in the Folding Help section of our Forum. We're glad to have you on our team, make yourself comfortable here and thank-you for choosing Folding to help with this great cause.
