This morning I lost my Aunt to Cancer..    I add her name to the scroll of the long list of reasons why I fold!

One of my closest friends has been diagnosed with a rare blood cancer, and her mother is fighting cancer as well.

I always seem to find more reasons to fold.

I fold because my Grandmother died of cancer of the Brain. Thus I started folding because of her memory on 06.09.06 for the Hard Forums.

Three years ago I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The Impact was a major one, and at 31 it was also a shock. It has been a life changing event for me, in more than one way. I can't lie and when say it was the hardest thing I have had to face in my life. The Major impact it had on my family was also vast.
I fold because I can. Because I feel like I'm doing something, even if it's a but a rain drop in the storm. If some day I can have made a difference, it's all I can ask for.

I started folding in 2008 for no real reason but eventually forgot about folding when I changed rigs. I have just started folding again when I bought a EVGA GTX770 classified refurbished. I now have a very good reason to fold. For the last 6 years I have been dealing with Bladder Cancer, but as long as I get checked every three months and any new tumors found removed they tell me that I should still live a fairly normal life span. I was told that 20 years ago my diagnosis would have been a death sentence. Now though they run a maintenance program on me with checkups every three months. At first the tumors only came back every year and a half or so but this last year I have had to have surgery for new tumors every three months. This last year having 4 surgeries in one year is wearing down my energy as I don't have enough time to fully recover before I have to have another surgery. This last time Lat Monday 05/11/2015 they added a new chemo treatment that is supposed to kill any free floating cancer cells so that they can not drop back onto the lining of my bladder and grow again. I hope to hell that it works. I am getting tired all the time and I want my strength back.

That is why I now fold like a mad man!

Helping a good cause by doing nothing except launching a program is pretty sweet. EVGA encouraging it with EVGA bucks is nice too!

My family has suffered from some of the diseases that Folding @ Home helps with. The EVGA bucks are icing on the cake as far as I'm concerned. Electricy is cheap compared to the good that can come from our contributions.

I became interested in when my grandfather was diagnosed with CJD.  It was terrible to watch a man, who was a man's man, a cowboy, and to me a modern hero of sorts, descend into an infantile state.  I visited him about a month before he died, and he never really "woke up" for anyone, but I think he realized I was there with my son, his great-grandson.  I think he mustered up everything he could to look at us then went back to sleep.

It's nice to be able to earn rewards for this, but I think the best reward is knowing if the work I donate will help someone not go through what Grandpa did.  This folding is for you, Grandpa.

Cancer has been killing my Mother's family probably since the beginning of time. I am the first to be able to fight back and I'm not going to squander the opportunity especially when it's so easy for me to do.

I Fold for many reasons. First and foremost is for the research itself. I know the more we understand the intricacies of how our bodies actually work then the more we'll be able to combat diseases and illnesses that plague us. And I know for a fact this research has been directly involved with new cures and discoveries that would not have been possible without it. And people like us.
I also have friends and family members who suffer, and have died, from maladies related to the types of illnesses this research is working hard to understand.
And thirdly, my daughter is a physician, and has dedicated her life to this exact type of research. Her decision to do so was based on me relating what little I knew about FAH to her. She was so impacted by this she pursued it whole-heartedly and based not only her doctorate on it, but her life and career. She has a theory (that the company she works for is backing her on and providing money and equipment) that if proved correct will surely change the entire medical profession as to how protein-related diseases are diagnosed and treated. I pray she is right!
