Quite a long time ago I ran Seti and then, for a few years, stopped running distributed computing software.  When Stanford sent out an email about [link=mailto:folding@home]folding@home[/link] it looked to me like a much more likely way of making a difference by donating my computing power.  I have now been folding for many years.
Recently a long known co-worker of mine was diagnosed wiht cancer.  He was 65 and went on extended medical leave.  Soon that coverage ran out and LTD (long term disability) coverage was looked at.  Since he was 65 he was forced to retire... retire while in the hospital!  We visited for about a month and then were asked not to, he was losing the battle and his family was with him.
Yeserday he passed.
I didn't start folding because I knew someone who had passed, I have been lucky that way.  I suppose I began folding beacause I knew that at some time I might.
RIP Bruce.

Very sorry to hear about your friend's passing Codeblue.    I've lost three friends (co-workers of 20+ years) to cancers the past couple of years.  That is one disease that I long to see defeated.  Thanks for sharing "why you Fold".

Well I figured I would say Hi. I am not new to EVGA but I started folding this week. After getting some settings sorted out it's going well. I have several members of my family that have or have had cancer so hopefully we can make some progress in that and other areas. Now I just need to get my act together and start overclocking my 990x lol. My folding rig is my companies CAD / FEA machine hence the name split if anyone was curious.

I started folding just a few weeks ago at EVGA. The community here has really opened the door for me to use my existing computers to try to cure diseases. I have three family members that have died of cancer. Most recently was my grandmother. I currently have three families friends who at battling various types of cancer. I hope that some day all the dedication of time and resources of the many people her at EVGA and other teams can find a cure that can save lives.

Thank you for sharing Mike, I'm sorry for your loss. It's a terrible disease, one that should be wiped away. I hope to see the day that it is curable.
