Quite a long time ago I ran Seti and then, for a few years, stopped running distributed computing software. When Stanford sent out an email about [link=mailto:folding@home]folding@home[/link] it looked to me like a much more likely way of making a difference by donating my computing power. I have now been folding for many years.
Recently a long known co-worker of mine was diagnosed wiht cancer. He was 65 and went on extended medical leave. Soon that coverage ran out and LTD (long term disability) coverage was looked at. Since he was 65 he was forced to retire... retire while in the hospital! We visited for about a month and then were asked not to, he was losing the battle and his family was with him.
Yeserday he passed.
I didn't start folding because I knew someone who had passed, I have been lucky that way. I suppose I began folding beacause I knew that at some time I might.
RIP Bruce.
