So, any thoughts for benching?

For roughly the same price.

Kingpin's F1 Gemini 2.0 for DICE and MAYBE some LN2
Or a SS Phase unit that can do -20C or so @ 250W load.

Any thoughts? I was leaning toward the phase but now I'm thinking hard about the pot.

phase you can do anytime.  LN2 you have to gear yourself up and set an evening aside.

The phase doesn't run out, but won't get as cold.

sandy bridge has a really high CB where LN2 and Dice can hit.

-20c would be awesome for sandy

I'd be benching X58 and maybe IB later on.

so far IB has no CB so LN2 and go for broke

What about for mainly X58 right now? I was leaning toward the phase at first but now I'm thinking a pot probably.

most X58 chips use 130w@ stock, 250w doesnt give you much head room especially when you consider the amount of volts required.

take the 580 for example, when the card is stock it uses about 250w of power under load at a voltage of 1.1. when you increase the voltage to say 1.5v it can use as much as 500watts of power as explained in this thread----- i cant find the thread.......

i think tin did it and its on kingpin cooling.

anyway what im getting at is an overclocked 960 will chew thru a 250w phase in no time, and -20c wont get you very far, you can do better than that with a AC water chiller like nate and Q56 used to use
