Guys, please compare my 9400GT benchmark to this other person's 9400GT benchmark and tell me what you think.

Mine:

His:
http://hwbot.org/submission/2235044_xiaotonggua_3dmark06_geforce_9400_gt_ddr2_5861_marks/

How can it be that he has a higher score?

Why does he have no picture and no verification URL?

Run it again, you're way off of all his GPU tests...  way off

You can try LOD tweak and see if that helps.  Not sure what LOD you'd use on that card tho.  Try LOD 5 first

Ok, Im going to ask this question here...
When benching 3dmark06...
If I bench just gpu test 3/4 i get a nice score, but if i run the cpu test then into test 3/4 i loose 1000 points. This is happening with my nvidia cards. Can anyone else test this. Thanks.

Yes, canyon and deep freeze do that.  And gpu test #2 will be higher if you don't run proxycon first....damn benches  It happens with my ATI cards too.

Thanks Q, I was thinking i was going mad for a minute! I should have like 35k score for my laptop, but that park knocks me down the the low low 34k mark.

Ty, are you on XP? I would hope so. That'll definitely help a lot. You should be running an XP stripped down benching OS though. LMK if you need help/links.

I have avoided these stripped down versions for a few reasons:
1) I don't know how legal they are.
2) I don't know how safe they are.
3) I don't think it will help much.
4) I am busy and don't have time to re-install XP if I don't think it will make a big difference.

Keep in mind, with a 9400GT, a 200 point increase in 3dmark06 is about equivalent to a 20% increase in overclock.  Do you think a stripped down version will equal the same performance as a 20% overclock?  I doubt it.

Q56:  Two issues with 9400GT on phase:

1) Cold bug.  GPU performance drops if the card gets too cool.

2) Can't overclock the card over 1000Mhz core.  Drivers seem to stop it at 1000Mhz.

Any ideas?

I have been doing phase on my CPU for a while (way easy), but I wanted to get some experience with phase on a video card with my 9400GT before I step up to phase on the 8800GT.

Cold bug is common on 9000 series.  Can't go colder than -50C max, if I remember correctly.  I don't have a 9400GT, but are you saying you can't get software to set above 1000 core?

Yes, I am having trouble overclocking with software above 1000MHz core.  Originally, I had the card flashed to 900MHz core which is bootable with air and then I was overclocking above that.  But, I could not overclock over 1000MHz core, so I thought it was because it didn't like more than a 100MHz increase at that high of a core clock.  So, I flashed it to 1000Mhz core which is not bootable with air, so now I HAVE to boot with phase.  But, still I can't overclock even 1Mhz higher.  I could try flashing blindly at higher speeds, but I don't want to flash the card to a speed I have never even had a chance to test because I am afraid that at some point I will flash it too high and never be able to boot it again.

Some of my old GPU's in hibernation.....waiting to be awakened.  Maybe when IB hits.  I heard it's going to open these old cards up:D

Over a period of months, I have run it at least 20 times.  I have tried everything.

I have tried:
1) Slower clocks in case there was some unseen stability problems somewhere
2) HT off with faster CPU speed
3) Two different motherboards
4) Different operating systems
5) Different air coolers and even phase change

I did one run on phase and got pissed off and started this rant.  I never submitted my phase run, but it was at 1000/2000/648 and my score was still 100 points too low.  So, I have to overclock to 1100/2100/648 to beat his score when he is at a pathetic overclock!?

It is BS I say!  I know I am WAY off of his scores.  And that is the problem.  His scores are impossible I tell you!  Coming from my experience over these months of trying, something is wrong with his scores.  My overclocks and setup is ridiculously better than his, but yet he has an impossible to beat score.  His problem is that he has no proof other than a screenshot.  My opinion is that his screenshot is either photoshopped or GPU-z detected his card as a DDR2 card when it is actually a DDR3 card.

I have first place with the 9400GT in 3dm03, 3dm05, and Vantage.  Isn't it suspicious that the ONLY benchmark he has benchmarked the 9400GT, his score is impossibly high and he has no proof?

yeah, may not be legit score.  Says it needs a pic to count, but still looks like points are awarded....hummm.  I think he's on better cooling and down clocked the GPU before he took the screenie.  Report the sucker!

Try NVinspector to change core/mem.  That should go way over 1000 mhz
