lets make it easier...can you boot into windows at 59x and run wprime1.55 1024? vantage cpu or dx11?

about a 5x5 square would be enough of liquid tape.
but the foam is the main part.if it's not insulated with foam, you will get condensation on the liquid tape and it will in turn run off in to the vreg at some point. thus ending your board

side note.
if the phase change arm isnt insulated well, the ice buildup will run straight down in to the cpu socket and spill over on to the board as well.

once you address those two parts...phase is pretty much good to go for a very long time.

I wouldn't care if the board did fail.  Actually, I hope it eventually does.  If it doesn't fail, then I'm not pushing it hard enough.    But, of course I don't want to help set it up for disaster.

Alright, I removed the CPU retention mechanism, coated the board right up to the socket and coated the capacitors at the center of the socket.  I will pack the socket pins with vaseline and slap it together.

The rest of the thermal insulation (foam -- not electrical insulation [which I have already done]), I will sort out when the phase unit arrives on Monday.

hold on there speed racer.
only coat the bottom of the cpu and not the socket! or you will inadvertently mess up the pins.

Boot yes, run anything no. But I am just on ambient water.
edit  what I mean is the multi is limited, will not set any higher, at least that is what it sounded like in gunslinger fs thread.
The 1 chip I have can not be set above 59 period. The other 1 I can set to anything op to 99. The 1 that only goes to 59 I can put a higher number in but once I hit enter it goes to 59. Where as the 99 limited chip I can set to 99 hit enter and it stays at 99.

well, you have to be able to boot into windows & be benchable for you to claim 59x.
on water you should be able to do 55x 56x
so i would start at 52x and work you way up.

side note...if you can in fact get into windows at 59x and just idle there.
then if i were you. i would stop there and do no further light water testing or you'll degrade the chip.

I agree, that's why I only run my 960 24/7 @ 3.99Ghz.

Look I was in no way trying to claim I bench at 59x, only stating the multiplier's limit is 59 on one and 99 on the other. Actually I did not know the 99 limited one was any different til I checked after seeing GS f/s thread. Funny thing is that is the chip I do not overclock very high or bench with.

Gotcha!  Only coat the bottom of the CPU with vaseline, not the socket.

On the back of the board, there is the metal socket backing plate.  I never removed that; I just coated right over it.  Should I remove that metal backing plate and coat between it and the board?

well now...it's a good thing we caught this early. because you saying 59x means just that.
so i would go around and correct that if i were you. because when we say a multiplier. that's exactly what it will do. that's the chips max.
and we mean max bench able chip. it will not go any higher than that.
and some people have gotten chips that only do 4.9 ghz on ln2.
but hey, that's of course...entirely up to you.
