I'm using both 8 pin connectors on the cpu;).....always have

Its just an additional power to the PCI slot.  Shamino came up with soldering to the back of the mobo, and adding a 4 pin, but since most people aren't handy with solder on that size pins, I guess EVGA came up with it.

I know I wouldn't call it "clean power"  its all the same 12V just probably going through less stuff.  Unless there was some sort of capacitance on that mini board its not clean power.  If your power supply is garbage, its still going to be garbage.  I like the idea though.  I would prefer to solder directly to both PCI-E slots that needs the juice.  But I am pretty handy with a soldering iron ;)

Rabid - send away.  I am still trying to learn how to USE it.  Building it was EASY.

edit:
so after digging up a bunch of info on this problem that i never even knew exisited...i have to ask this....
are people using 24 pin + BOTH 8 pin connectors to the motherboard? i can't seem to find anyone stating that they are. with these burned up pins. or am i reaching on this? because some were saying with cpu draw..it was also causing it..but if you use both connectors...that's 600 watts to the cpu and less pull on the 24 pin connector.leaving more room for the cards.(speculations).(from what i gather i guess)

More important questions: SINGLE rail power supply (one pot & everyone takes what they want)?  and are they using multiple QUALITY power supplies?  I have THREE dedicated.  The day I have a power problem is when the power company shuts me down for suspected crop growing when I get back to benching.

There was a post somewhere on kingpins website (Shamino's lair).  If you have to take a soldering iron to your board, you will void your warranty (ahem)

same here Q and i have never had a problem..even running 3 gtx295's at the same time..

yeah nate...im not soldering anything to this board..it burns up...so be it...lol my board aint in a case and my card has life time warranty.

although my 12V drops below that (11.94V) i still havent had any power issues that i can remember.

and they say it happens at stock?

looking at the intel dx58so board...i guess intel knew something...since it has the 4 pin molex on board. and that board is hella old.

Im not afraid to solder anything
I am thinking I could probably make something like that myself if I find the pin layouts for PCI slots.  Power stuff is easy-signal is a bit harder. maybe cannibalize an old PCI-E card and make something up.

now i would be game to do that. but i just can't hit the board with a hardware mod. they may not void the warranty, but that will incur a charge for sure. as to how much...i have no clue...lol
