I would like to keep pushing the Q720M.  I honestly have no idea what is wrong with it though.  Now I can't hardly exceed 150Mhz Bclock.  I was having this problem before too, but it seemed like a certain combination of memory fixed the problem.  Now the problem is back again full force.

ARggh!  I want to get some boints!

I did see the core voltage spike for a split second at 1.8-1.9v at one point while drawing the pencil on the PWM controller.  I wonder if I nuked it.    I am getting memory related BSoDS while overclocking past ~150MHz BClock.  I wonder if I screwed up the IMC.  Anyone have a Q720M (A.K.A 720QM) lying around which they don't need anymore after upgrading?

On another note, I was wondering if anyone has some advice regarding getting XP working on my laptop.  I have tried slipstreaming SP3, SATA, and Chipset drivers into the XP install disk, but still I get a BSoD while starting the install (after it is done loading drivers and first starting the setup process) relating to my hard drive.  I don't know if it is the SATA CD-ROM drive which is tripping the BSoD or the SATA Hard drive.  Maybe it is a problem with AHCI versus IDE mode (which I have no control over with this laptop).  Any thoughts?  Success stories?

hummmmm, if you seen 1.8 to 1.9 v on a mobile cpu...that would be the last of that cpu you seen..lol
now if that is 1.0825 or something like that...understandable.

i just uploaded all the xp drivers for my g73...they may work for you as well.

as to installing xp. make it easy n yourself.
install it in ide mode and not achi mode. you can convert it after the install.

Ty_ger07, that's probably a question for John, resident laptop guru.  But I seem to remember an issue with my D900F that you couldn't run XP.  Check the notebook review forums too.

No, it definately was 1.8-1.9v.  I was booting up after applying some more lead while measuring the core voltage with the multimeter.  The multimeter was bouncing all over the place with load changes during boot.  The core voltage was reading around 1.2v during POST, dropped to around 1.1v for a bit, and then started bouncing around 1.4 to 1.6v during boot and flashed up to 1.8 and 1.9v for short instants.  Obviously the core voltage becomes very unstable with load changes on this CPU.  I already knew that to some extent noticing default vdroop.  But apparently the voltage swings become real extreme with more voltage.

yeah, not going to go to much into that voltage thing..since i didnt use it with my 720 and it ranks near the top... but you got me beat there at trying...only thing i might have tried was boosting 133 to boot 166. then start over clocking from there.

What do you mean by boosting to boot?  There is no way to force a boot OC with SetFSB, is there?

if we had the msi laptop. you can mod the motherboard to boot 166.
