ok i have a question for either john or Q,

would overclocking memory past its rated specs put more stress on the VTT?
so would  my ram kingston 1600CL8 @1755CL9 use more VTT than
say corsair 2000@ 1750 CL9?

I don't think so.  That would be more of what kind of dimm voltage you need to keep the kingston stable (1.65 might be enough for a 10% ram OC).

Everything is related because everything runs off the bclock, but VTT is voltage for uncore, of which the integrated memory controller is the biggest part.  To get a stable uncore you might need some additional VTT, but uncore frequency is based on your bclock x uncore multiplier.  And you want your uncore freq. to be 2x your ram, so in your case 1750x2=3500, regardless of the dimms you have installed.

i thought gulftown only had to have 1.5x uncore? so 1750x1.5= 2650?

or is it better to go for x2 for the uncore or......
im so confused

Yea, gulftown 1.5x.  I was assuming you were using bloomfield, which is 2x. Sorry.

You can do 2x with gulftown though.

What bclock you looking to run?

@threedhero: Ya, the OS's that i have tried work great. You have to be sure to follow his instructions on some of the installs though, b/c he forgot some files on some or something like that. The instructions are on the XS page.

Also, I really dig his XP, as it helped me get the SuperPi 1m WR for Q9300 (the other records i had already gotten with stock W7; if i retested with his XP, i would beat my own records for sure).

So you're probably running an 18x uncore multi, right?  That's not a lot of stress for uncore.  Your VTT may be too high.  Try dropping to 1.2 and work back up if you have to.

Ok, I resisted.  Sticking to my original plan.  If all goes well after tomorrow's UPS delivery, I'll fill the 50L up on Thursday.
