also looking at grabbing a 480x, since the 980x isn't making the big jump as i thought it would....probably just wait for the lessor to come out and grab one of those.

I read you'll have to wait until the end of the year for that....and it'll be $500....and it's still just a rumor.  Yea, I don't know about the 980x...I'll find out when I get it colder.

if i had a 4 way board, grabbing 4 480's would be a nice grab for sure.
figures...end of the year...lol
Halo_003

What's a 480x?

my version of the dual gpu, since i have the 3 sli board. means i need to run dual gpu cards to get quad going
or switch boards and do 4 way.

the only bench wolfdale still holds on to is 01, i5 and i3 are very strong in 2d benches but they are slower clock for clock compared to bloomfield and gulftown.

gulftown would probably be a better choice since it can do everything but 01, provided you have the right cooling.

so would you say that these chips...i3/i5 would be better over all over the e8600/e8700?
and really...it was more about getting the board and a high end dual chip...because the 775 boards had quite a few chips to bench for points.quads/duals.

so what do you think?

the Q6600 didn't cold bug under dice, I could fill the entire pot & walk away.  I say thats a good place to start.  when I am done benching the e8400 I will prolly put the 790i/Q6600 up for sale.

I really like my i5 setup, they absolutely scream under ln2.  They have a very low CBB in general (-130c for my 670 and my 660 hasnt gone sub zero yet) and i cant even find the CB of my chip with ln2.  If you like 2d benching then I would definitely say i5 is the better buy over a wolfdale

What do you experience when it cold bugs?  no boot?

CB= cold bug, where the cpu crashes from being too cold.
CBB= cold bug boot, which is where the board wont boot at that temp.

when my board CBBs it tends to hang on post code 23 (I think thats it anyways)  Havent had a CB yet so I'm not sure what to expect

I guess I haven't got a cold bug crash, but the cold bug boot.  And with my classy, it basically FF's until it heats back up.
