SuperPi especially. For 32M you need speed (bandwidth), for 1M you need timings (latency). Wprime\PiFast im not sure how RAM dependent those are.

I dropped my multi on my RAM to 2:6 and my timings to 6-7-7-20, and noticed a boost in 1M, but my 32M was doing a lot worse. .

All GTX 280's support software voltage tuning. There is also a EVT patch to allow more than it normally allows.

this is what i thought as well..but when i kept adding voltage it just got worse. and all i did was go from 1.18 to 1.20

and no voltage adjustment has me up pretty high..3d05. go figure.

With my experience with my 5870, your cooling will be the biggest factor. On stock cooling im not sure how many volts I need for my max OC. I use slightly less than 1.3v, the higher I go, the more unstable it gets.

Yea I have seen the micro block and all its amazingness.  I would like to get into benching I am just to afraid to get my main system into it although I have thought about building a cheaper amd system for it.

but I love reading this it is always fun.

I know your dilemma.  I originally designed my benching system to be a gaming computer.  Then I got into benching.  Now this machine that cost thousands & thousands just sits here to do 1 hit wonder benching.  Now i have a spare computer (790i/Q6600) to do everything & play games with.  9800GT's do just fine on the games that I play - even across 3 screens.  Then I also bench that to the point it caught fire.  Awesomesauce.

Isn't it ironic that we can't just "turn on" our systems to do general computing/gaming....they're like Saturn V rockets.  They cost $$$$$$, and you only see them in action when the conditions are just right.

I mean we can't even surf the web cause the dang ethernet is shot from the high pci-e settings, LOL!

at this point I really can do anything I want with it.  I installed a thermostat so I can have the chiller running any temp that I want.  I just use the spare cause it doesn't cause brown-outs throughout the neighborhood.

I really was just seeing if the 980 could put the 240 over the top since the 240 does not o/c worth a s***.
Also I don't have a video card that o/c well at all right now.
Seems a lot of the ATI 5000 series suck (at least mine). The only one that worked well was the 5770 that Reggie bought.
Got a MSI lighting 5870 on its way. We'll see how that does.
