Hey Sniper, I noticed you were using the MSI bios for your 5870 runs.  How did you get the voltage control to work?

Hay Q ....the card is MSI so i just used the factory BIOS, with Afterburn.... still not happy with the clocks i'm getting though

Cheers

Is there an official list anywhere for gpu's that work with Afterburner's voltage tuning? (I assume all fairly recent cards work with clock adjustments, but not necessarily voltage)

Thanks Sniper. I thought maybe you flashed the bios to MSI.

xxrabid....yea, that you would like to know before you just buy any old 58XX series card!  I'm having problems getting the voltage to increase on the XFX 5870 I have.  I can flash to the Asus BIOS, which gives me an increase from 1.12 to 1.163 using asus smart doctor.

I'm not even sure how it does that increase because when I edit the asus bios with RBE Radeon BIOS editor, it says there are no voltages to choose from.  Evidently if there is not a list of voltages in the editor program to choose from, then the voltage is not changeable.

I think awalleye has the same card as me...the non-reference fan model.

q why cant you flash using atiflash?? that works better than editing the bios

what is the highest voltage you see in afterburner?

@Reggie: I think the actual hardware on that card Q has doesn't allow for much if any voltage adjustment, so i doubt doing that would be any different, but ya never know...

Does HT help at all in any of the 3D benches? (vantage, 06, 05, etc.) What about 2D? (superpi, wprime, etc.)

Hay regg yeah i see you creeping up there with a 930...

yeah  i here ya with the lack of stability on the 930.... was not very impressed..... but  am thinking it needs some time to work out maybe even a bios .... not sure but yes i had the same problems
after spending months on understanding the 920 i think we forget that each chip is different
at the moment i'm tweaking 670, 860 ,930 plus a heap of LGA775 chips so my head is spinning.... but it is so much fun

my biggest help was " Getting it Colder"....Dice but stability beyond 4.8g was hard work

keep on tweaking would lov to know your findings .....will give it some more testing later this weekend my self

 Good Luck Snipe

yea, I did flash using atiflash.  I flashed to the asus bios (I have an XFX card).  It works pretty good....can get a little better voltage (1.163), but, of course, I want more....lots more.

this card doesn't have the voltera regulators, nor does it have any pre-stored "selectable" voltages I can select from to force the bios higher than 1.163 volts.

Appears I'm at the limit (and it hasn't been that cold around here lately, which would undoubtedly help!)
