Is it weird of me thinking the word cowardice isn't correct?  Attacked armed police is more brazen then cowardly.  Ambush I guess is cowardly, but thats kind of the only way to attack armed personnel. 
 
Anyway.  the guy needs to die for doing this.  Why are articles like this not surprising me anymore? 

Our leaders are failing us, they need to get in the bully pulpit and condemn this kind of thing loud and clear.

Seems our leaders and most liberals in general are more afraid of being called racist that taking a high velocity round to the navel.

Locking as Politics.  I realize that the story itself is not political, however there have already been several replies of a political nature, and I only foresee more.
