To make a short story long; I stopped gpu folding after my quad gtx 580's got out dated for that purpose. Then I stopped Ubuntu cpu -bigadv folding when that program ended and never folded ever since then. My rig was doing pretty good for folding. My goal was to get to the evga first page stat. I only got to the third. Now I am on the 5th page, haha.
I compare my old water cooled everything SR-2 mobo twin x5680's and quad gtx 580's to that old war robot on the original judge dredd movie, old, strong, power house. Recently my rig started to go quirky on me with bsod and reboots. One of the 580's went bad. This was easily diagnosed with the onboard gpu bypass feature. Anyway without doing much research on compatibility with my mobo I went ahead and purchase a pair of 1080 hydro coppers which I will recieve next Tuesday. This should get me back into folding. I could have bought one Titan XP which I feel would have been better but I figure two 1080's would be better for folding ppd. It's nice to know ones computer has a rewarding purpose.
Gosh time to do some folding research. Any recommendations for best ppd gpu folding program or are they all similar. Are there any cpu folding programs and or is it even worth it (Believe me I feel for all you former 4P folders out there). Make a hole, MIA folder Turbomadman is coming back, lol.
Thanks for reading...

My 4P and 2Ps are Running BOINC Projects along with Folding on Graphics Cards Mostly GTX 980 and now a par of GTX 1080 Cards. I even have a par of AMD R9 290X Graphics Cards that Fold. All my Graphics Cards also run BOINC GPU Projects.
I stopped Folding on CPU when the BigAdv Ended but the 4Ps can be used on a lot of different BOINC CPU Projects like WCG the closest program to Folding at Home.
As far as GPU to Fold on they say GTX 780 and above but for me any Maxell or Pascal Card is the way to go now at least with Core 21 the current GPU Program. My 290X are not so bad on Core 21 but did much better with Core 17.
You will really like them 1080 Hydro Coppers set the Client to use client-type = advanced
Stay on Driver 373.06 for now all newer Drivers are not working on the Maxwell and Pascal Graphics Cards.

Welcome Back to the Fold, PS You just missed this years TZC

getting to the top takes more time than raw power in most cases. you just have to stick with it and upgrade every 2 years with the $240 EVGA bucks you earn. but non the less glad to see you're back.

If you install two new 9 series or better video cards on a x58, or SR-2  you may have to change (increase) the "low memory gap" setting to 3, or some number like that. You will see what I mean when you look at it

Wow, already some great info. from the Big Boys none the less. I'm getting even more enthused. Gotta go find my passkey, lmao. I wonder if I will notice a difference 580 ➡1080. No need to answer that one folks...

Thanks a bunch family.

Oh yeah, welcome back!!

Also, that Low memory gap setting is in the BIOS, I was not clear on that, most likely you will have to change it.
I would just go ahead and change it anyway.
