Hello,

a few days ago i received my EVGA GTX 1070 FTW. The card runs smooth and silent but there is a thing which worries me.
When i do some Benchmarks or just stress tests the card has a 99-100% GPU workload over the whole time with a 70-90% power draw.
But when i play games like BF4 (Ultra at 1080p MSAA x0) the card only runs at 40-60% workload. This sometimes causes low FPS in scenes where much action like explosions and particles is.

Since the card arrived i installed the newest NVidia Driver, MSI Afterburner (6.4.0) and EVGA POC.

What's the problem?

Hardware:
i5 3570k @ stock (will be OC'ed when my new PSU arrives)
GIGABYTE GA Z77X UP7
EVGA GTX 1070 FTW with fixed BIOS(86.04.50.00.72 and the other one for the Slave BIOS)
BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W 80+ (will be exchanged against a BeQuiet Dark Power Pro 11 750W 80+ Platinum)
Corsair H100i GTX
Fractal Define R5 Black
Corsair SSD and 2 HDD's
Corsair Vengeance 16GB 1600MHZ DDR3 (2x8GB)

OS: Windows 10 64bit

Should i make a clean install of Win 10? I've seen a thread where this has helped the user.
The thermalmod itself isnt applied yet but it will be hopefully in the next days/weeks.(thermal pad and paste)

I thank you for all advices!

Use nvidia dsr feature to increase your resolution to 1440p. That should help.

The problem? "i5 3570k @ stock"

The famous bottleneck is back.

You know DSR does not look good in every game. Personally i dont like it at all.
And thats not really a solution, because there is no problem :D

I have they same in some games but as long i have high enough fps i dont care if my Gpu is at 60% or 70%.

You have not explained what kind of FPS you're getting in your applications.

I don't believe you need Nvidia DSR in BF4.  If I remember right it has a Resolution or Render Scale setting in-game for this.

Anyway, low GPU usage usually means the game isn't very graphically demanding (in relation to the power of your GPU) or it's a CPU bottleneck (CPU can't feed the GPU enough instructions to keep it tasked).  As someone else said, you didn't mention what FPS you are actually getting.  Also, increasing the Render/Resolution Scale setting that I mentioned earlier would certainly help push the GPU more.

I've tested prime95 at all 4 cores while running Heaven 4.0.
Both have 99% - 100% workload but i did not achieve any FPS drops in Heaven.
I need to say that the FPS in BF4 arent bad, but as i've already said, sometimes the frames drop under 60. I have a 120HZ Monitor, so 120 fps+ would be great.
I really dont think that my CPU is bottlenecking that much. That wouldnt be the reason for only 40% GPU load.

DSR didnt bring any positive changes.

I'm going to make a short video of some games with Afterburner Overlay activated.

I have the same issue with my i5 4690k @4.5 GHz and my 1070 FTW (without thermal pad , ty EVGA) and i hate this. I have drop from 144 fps to 90 fps and my monitor is a 144 hz refresh without g sync and its very frustating.
