I would not go EVGA this time around.  You never know what you will get, old , new, modded, updated bios, 3-4% chip issue, who knows.  They cut a lot of corners and built cheap but sold for a premium price.

I understand your thinking and think it is totally reasonable for this Pascal gen. I'm sure others will agree too, and this will affect EVGA's bottom line this financial year, maybe longer?
But I don't think this was done to cut corners, I mean the thermal pads are probably the cheapest part, but of course there is QC to which should have found it. I think it was big mess up by an otherwise reliable company. I suppose that does't make it any better and the result is the same whatever.
One thing for sure. If any thing similar happens again with EVGA I would totally agree with you and would boycott them for life. This time, after my initial fury I can give them a pass on this. Just.
Not happy about it of course, and it is pretty much inexcusable but I'm willing to give them another chance, mainly because of their support service. But this is only my opinion, and you may be right.

That is one of the best and most civil responses I have seen on this forum in a long time.  I agree with what you said.

I have a long memory though.  EVGA had issues way back in the day with their motherboards, and we had to RMA them as there was a chip issue.  It was a pain as I went through 3 boards till I got a good one.  It was a ton of work.

I can't say for sure, looking at a popular PC parts retailer here in Canada, Gigabyte's Gaming G1 is the best reviewed this time around.

I was an EVGA customer back during the GTX 260  and went MSI for my 700 and 900 series cards and back to EVGA for the 10 series card.
My original card has the bad batch of VRM which caused the black screen + fan 100% issue
This was followed by the general issue with all the cards having no thermal pads and some cards exploding. So after having RMA'd through my retailer as my 1st card was within their in-store warranty, I RMA'd my in-store RMA through EVGA.

Experience is good so far, but I'm a bit weary, and will watch closely how things develop from here on out.  They haven't lost me as a customer, but up here in Canada 1080s at the time of my purchase are over $1,000 Cdn with taxes ; it's 1/3 the price of my entire PC build, so it was a big deal to me that this happened.

The great Customer service is what is saving them right now and I am willing to pay extra in the future to get this kind of service.  I haven't had any problems with my MSI cards before but then again I don't know what kind of experience I would have if I did have a problem.

EVGA is the only nvidia GPU manufacturer I buy, but I wouldn't buy a 10 series evga GPU.

The absurd price and now hardware issues definitely hit them in the reputation department. I'll be looking at upgrading to the next generation of nvidia GPU, but there is a very good chance I might go to a different manufacturer now.

*People that buy their components to use and then sell on will be put off by buying evga 10 series cards with all that's transpired. I would have to agree, regardless of actual failure rate.
*People that have already bought their expensive evga 10 series cards and now feel either cheated, disappointed, disillusioned or just plain angry. I really do sympathize. Having a quality aftercare service will not please or satisfy everyone, especially when they bought into the brand because of their products and not the other way round.

just my one and a half cents

Until I see my pads arrive, I will not call it "quality aftercare", 4 weeks and counting..

Quality of service, I don't see them failing here. Time of turnaround or one's impatience is a subjective feeling.

I would love to see your "patience" if you knew your card had subpar VRM and possibly vRAM cooling. It's easy to play it cool when one is not affected by the issue.
