Hey guys. I want to change the radiator fan that comes with the gtx 1080 Hybrid FTW kit for the be quiet! SILENTWINGS 3 HIGH SPEED fan (recommend by Nereus on these forums). The fan is available in a 4-pin PWM version or a 3 pin version. I am planning to set it in pull configuration for easy dust cleanup.

If I buy the 3 pin version, do i just plug it into the GPU just as the stock fan is plugged in? If that's the case, will the fan still be able to perform as advertised or will it be underpowered?

If I buy the 4 pin PWM version, can it also be plugged into the GPU? (My assumption is no since there isn't room for a 4 pin) If I plug it into the mobo, can I manage its speed with the program Speedfan?
My mobo is a z97 MSI gaming 5.

On my EVGA 1080 FTW Hybrid, I have 2 Noctua's NF-12's 1200 RPM's (4 pins) running in push-pull config. none hooked to the GPU socket but rather to a fan controller.

Both are dead silent !

I tried 2 of the new Noctua's industrial PPC - 12  fans - 3 pins both are 2000 rpm's and they didn't even run on the GPU connection (Monster Fans)

Not so sure the be quite will run on the GPU connection if its a 2000 RPM. Ofcourse it can start spinning at mid to high voltage (nothing below that will work i think) and I'm not so sure you will like the sound they make at full load. but maybe someone else can confirm

personally I'm a Noctua fan always been and always will be .. can't wait for their new line-up this planned to release before end of this year .....

The Noctua PCC fans didn't work at all when plugged into the gpu individually? Was it because of voltage limitations? I only plan on buying on Be Quiet! Silentwings 3 fan and set it to pull. It's not too different to the stock gpu fan. I know Nereus has been promoting this fan a few times in different posts but he doesn't specify whether he plugged it to the gpu, the mobo, or to a fan controller.

With one only Noctua ppc connected to the GPU plug the fan clearly was lacking power twitching and will move on full voltage
