Hello everyone,

I recently updated the VBIOS of my GTX 1080 SC and since then, under load the fans go crazy and make a huge noise that I'm able to hear it even when playing a game wearing a headset.
At idle they're not spinning and once in game after 7-8 minutes they go up to 2400rpm (under HWMonitor they show 5000rpm but it's obviously an error). I joined screenshots of HWMonitor at idle and under load.

Yes the cards runs cooler than before the VBIOS update, but the noise that the fans make is seriously unbearable.
I saw that there was a Thermal Pod mod that you could apply in addition to the VBIOS update but it not something I'm capable of doing.

Is there a way to fix this ? Thanks in advance.

The rig :
- MSI Z170A SLI PLUS
- i5-6600k
- Dark Rock 3 (pushing air to the rear of the case)
- Kingston HyperX Savage 2*8GB DDR4 2800MHz
-  Cooler Master G650M 80+ Bronze
- NZXT S340 Black&Red
- 1x120 fan intake on the front bottom
- 1x120 fan exhaust rear

Single 12cm exhaust fan and single 12cm intake fan isn't really that great setup... That certainly doesn't help. Use GPU-Z, Afterburner or Precision X to monitor your card temps rather than HWMonitor.

Well I was thinking about adding 2 more fans, which one do you recommend ?

Something like 2* BeQuiet Pure Wings 2 140 PWM INTAKE in the front and the default 120 for the rear and top ?

Since you're limited to two in the front you might as well go big with 140mm fans. Try that with the included rear and top fans. If still needed you can swap out the top one with a 140mm.

So like I said :
Front (INTAKE) : 2* 140 PureWings 2 (no PWM) 140x140
Rear and top (EXHAUST) : default 120x120
Is that it ?

That's all you can do with that case.

The shop opens at 2pm so I'll get those today and keep you up to date. Thanks
By the way, since I only have 3 SYSFAN on my mobo, I guess I have to plug one of the fans on the CPUFAN2. Does it matter ?

Shouldn't

Do I have to get an adapter to plug two on one SYSFAN header ?

It is not the problem of the case fans. My 1080 went from 1250rpm under load to 2050rpm under load with the BIOS up-date. Flashing the old BIOS again, it is back to 1250rpm. Imho EVGA needs to come up with a new BIOS that is not as aggressive.
