Can't wait for that. I may upgrade my 2-980ti's when they come out. Or maybe wait another year after that. Ill have to see hwo much ill have saved up by then.

well waiting another year will not give you a much better next gen GPU as they are planning a rehash for the next series of GPU's. so in 2 years time and a new architecture is when i'll be shelling out for new GPU's, after 1080ti's that is.

I think volta architecture is scheduled for a 2018 mainstream.  I'll probably at least wait till the 2nd generation volta gpu's come out before I upgrade.  I should definitely have enough money saved up for a new build by then.  I'm not rich enough to go after each generation gpu. My 980ti's will probalby last till then.  The most graphic intensive game i play now is star citizen and i'm still able to run that on max at 2k with decent frame rates.

i personally like to jump to the new architectures and not the refined 2nd gens of the new architectures. performance gains are typically much higher this way than simply enhancing clocks and memory.

I wonder if the GPU pool is still open for donations?

It is still open and will remain open until we do the distribution.  Very easy for us to add another GPU to give away or to upgrade one to a 1080, and would not require people to repick their prize preferences....

going to a new arch is going to be a good performance gain regardless of whether you're going first gen or 2nd.  Just all depends on how many iterations you jump.  If you upgrade every new series, then the apparent gain you'll feel wont be as big as if you upgrade every other series or something.  I'm also ok getting stuff from evga's b-series for my secondary rigs ^_^.  For me, since i'll be skipping pascal completely (at least for my primary gaming rig) I should get a pretty big jump in performance.
