i personally like to jump to the new architectures and not the refined 2nd gens of the new architectures. performance gains are typically much higher this way than simply enhancing clocks and memory.
going to a new arch is going to be a good performance gain regardless of whether you're going first gen or 2nd. Just all depends on how many iterations you jump. If you upgrade every new series, then the apparent gain you'll feel wont be as big as if you upgrade every other series or something. I'm also ok getting stuff from evga's b-series for my secondary rigs ^_^. For me, since i'll be skipping pascal completely (at least for my primary gaming rig) I should get a pretty big jump in performance.
