Generated $2 billion in revenue, up 54% year over year, crushing the midpoint of the $1.68 billion revenue guidance it gave last quarter and the $1.69 billion analyst consensus.

Revenue isn't profit, it is just sales; and considering there is no competition to their high-premium models from GTX1070 on up that already enjoy an overcharge, it isn't surprising.

You're welcome, NVidia.

Gross profit margins averaging 56%+ is very nice... too bad they spend so much on unneeded wasteful overhead and stock boosting.

We have (sadly) seen this pattern before with best in class products and increasing margins...
One can hope that Nvidia wakes up and does not follow the demise of others who have acted in the same manner and ended up destroying themselves.
Bags of money make good people do stupid things, lets hope they start making better use of their profits

Good amounts of money earned allows for continued research and development funding. Looking forward to new NVIDIA products in 2017.

I agree. But thats not the case with Nvidia at this time

"NVIDIA paid $509 million in share repurchases and $185 million in cash dividends. As a result, the company has returned an aggregate of $694 million to shareholders in the first nine months of the fiscal year. The company intends to return $1.0 billion to shareholders in fiscal 2017."

"For fiscal 2018, NVIDIA intends to return $1.25 billion to shareholders through ongoing quarterly cash dividends and share repurchases. The company's board of directors has authorized an additional $2.00 billion under the company's stock repurchase program for a total of $2.96 billion available through the end of December 2020.
The company announced a 22 percent increase in its quarterly cash dividend to $0.14 per share from $0.115 per share, to be paid with its next quarterly cash dividend on December 19, 2016, to all shareholders of record on November 28, 2016."

What I was commenting on was the above information, that shows Nividia spending MORE than its entire yearly revenue on stock boosting...
While in house capital outlays for next year are projected at just 45-50 million dollars

So in the next 18 months Nvidia plans over --4 billion dollars-- in investor directed spending... not one cent of that on products

And of course Nvidia just this month added spying telemetry to its drivers as a method of added revenue..........

What we see here is shareholders and employees feeding at the trough with a already exceptional stock, while we as customers are milked at the same time.
History shows that this kind of behavior -often- leads to complete disaster.

Jen-Hsun Huang appears to be a lot more interested in making paper profits for himself and the venture guys he gave the company to than the future of his company. Its called pure greed. That works "ok" when times are good, but always ends badly when the music stops -and it always does at some point-.
This type of disgusting corporate behavior where stock becomes more important than products, just makes the music stop that much sooner.

Here (sadly) is the stock information in black and white   http://quotes.wsj.com/NVDA/company-people
The insider (Board) holdings/trading record speaks for itself, as does the negitive expenditures listing.

Us old timers remember ATI, SGI, 3DFX and Ageia and how they were acting-->  and how Nvidia was founded...
Nvidia would be wise to remember history, but it appears to be Dom, million dollar cars and stock games at party time Nvidia right now....
As the other graphics companies mentioned above learned the hard way, the music can stop quite suddenly indeed

Same with Intel, right now they are all just pocketing it and run a risk with their investors thinking their money spent is only paying executives.  Just like central processors, graphics co-processors take years to make from the ground up, therefore any 2017 debuts started out back in 2013 or so; if anything is going into R&D now, those products won't appear before 2020.
