I'm having multiple issues with my build and Windows 10 64bit Home, but I'm addressing the sound issue first.  I'm using the onboard Recon3Di because my standalone card was causing more frequent BSoD's so I removed it, Soundblaster Z.  The BSoD I'll get to in another post.

I can't get 5.1 surround sound to work with my setup (Logitech X-540 speakers).  I've gone into Windows Control Panel and setup everything for 5.1 surround and get nothing to play through the speakers.  Going into the SB Control Panel, selecting speakers/headphones screen of the SB control panel and by selecting the configurations via the drop down goes as follows:  Selecting Stereo 2.0/2.1 plays no sound.  Selecting 5.1 surround plays only the center and rear L/R speakers.  Selecting headphones plays front L/R only.  I've had everything working before on a different computer with same speakers so the speakers do work.

I've used the drivers from the disk and also had Windows find drivers automatically with same results.

Is there a known issue with onboard sound or has anyone else had similar issues with a fix?

Thanks

Have you remembered to first install the Intel Chipset drivers and Intel Management Engine drivers? Just curious. I'm not trying to imply anything but I've been on a roll and totally forgot those two and installed everything else before I started running into issues like what you're describing.

That is a perfectly acceptable question to ask.  I did install those items first as at the time I had a dedicated sound card that I installed instead of using the onboard.  Also IIRC I think the auto install from the disk installs in the order you stated or something close to it.

Nice speakers. I have some X-530 5.1 speakers sitting in a box that I never used because I found some Bose Companion 3 speakers at Sam's Club. I am using an ASUS Z170-S Sabertooth TUF right now. My Sound Blaster Cinema software was still starting at boot even though it isn't compatible with this Realtek sound driver or so I've been told. I used 'sysprep\sysprep' before I moved this from my MSI Z97 Gaming 7. There were a few leftovers and stragglers that I had to remove one by one as they came along. After I removed the SB utility I had to download and install the Realtek drivers from ASUS that were specific to this board.

Sajin,
Downloading and installing the drivers per your link.  I'll let you know what happens.

Zuhl,
I've had similar issues on my other PC's that were Asus boards.  I refuse to use Realtek and most if not all of the Asus boards use Realtek.  I've had to use dedicated sound cards for all my other PC's as I've used Asus forever until this last year.
If I can't get some of these issues fixed I'm going to go back to Win7.

Sajin,
Same results, no surround sound.
