Who's to say your card isn't more prone to failure like the others without the modification?
Seems odd evga coins the term "optional", yet they have deemed the thermal pads important enough to install on every 1080 ftw card they manufacture from this point on.

I just bought a 1080ftw and I think I will be returning it for a 1080 hybrid, which at least seems to have proper vrm cooling.

They put the pads on there for newer cards as an improvement in the design.  This doesn't mean that the current design is going to fail.

Who says my card is more prone to failure...this is my whole frustration with the hype over this...you can't prove a negative.

My GPU has never topped 65 C for temperature...GPU frequency is 2100 MHz...running full load 24/7 folding @ home...I'm confident that my VRMs are fine.

(Instead of returning the FTW, you can purchase the hybrid kit and install it...will take you about an hour)

If you want to let your VRMs run at well over 110c+ and VRAM at 95c+ you are free to do so. Everyone else would like a unit with proper cooling and not have the components running at temperatures over their rated limit.

wut... my 1070 sc gets max 61c and vrm 65c... at 50% fan speed and its not even loud.

Don't fix what ain't broken..
Why would I modify a card that's two days old? Seems stupid.
You can't really prove your card isn't more prone to failure, either, so I'm not sure why you're so frustrated?
The fact that evga is adding this optional improvement on the design into their manufacturing process, in my opinion, is as good as admitting guilt.
Seems to me you have a soft spot for evga.

Either way, you seem confident in your opinion whether it is based on reality or not.

I wish you all the best with your folding.

LOL - you are killing me here.

So - If a car manufacturer makes a modification 3 months after a new model is launched...then this proves that there is a problem with the cars produced before then????

If so - you had better stop buying new cars...or pretty much ANYTHING that is produced by ANY COMPANY.

WOW.  Please - get a clue, and stop with attacking me personally because I don't agree with you.

Again - as I said above - it's not in EVGAs (or any companies) best interest to try to "pull the wool" over the collective communities eyes, sit in a box, and ignore a problem.  (You've already proven you are too smart for that!!! heh heh - yes you are!!!)  The engineers say "things are within spec, but you can add these pads for extra comfort, but they are not required"...and this gets distorted into "the sky is falling and nothing works as all and EVGA design is faulty."

A bit about my background.  I have a masters degree in electrical engineering, and an MBA.  I am the COO of my company (which makes...gasp...electronics).  I have 20 patents, and have designed more things that have improved your life, that you use every day (directly or indirectly) than you could possibly imagine.  I have designed thousands of circuits, hundreds of products, written over 10 million lines of code, and shipped hundreds of millions of dollars based off my personal designs.

So - please - don't go telling me that my opinion is not based on reality (or whatever BS you are spewing) unless you can compete with that.

Do you even have a technical background or a engineering degree not from a Cracker Jack Box?  Or are you just vomiting out the same line that's been puked all over the internet.

Please.

Oh ... not YOU again!  I knew you were cyber-stalking me!
Anywho, yes, I most certainly have an engineering degree (BSES CS University of South Florida 1987) and a technical background and you'll notice I still vomit out the same line that's been puked all over the internet.  Not only did I invent the series of tubes call the internets but I also invented the question mark (in before Apple claims THAT patent!).  ah-HA again.  I know you didn't aim that post at me but I don't care.

Evga should do a recall on the SC/FTW cards with how many issues they are having...
It's literally 33% of all SC/FTWs are defective out of the box! These are horrifying statistics!! Never will I ever buy a aftermarket PCB GPU from EVGA, not after reading dozens of accounts of RMAs on those cards, everything from fan issues, to overheating, to not running stable at stock clocks. What the hell, this is not normal of EVGA at all! I think after reading all these complaints I may even look at Asus or MSI for my next GPU, at least their aftermarket PCB's aren't all being sent back!

So how about you show me where evga has said a third of all ACX style cards have died from overheating. That sounds like a load of crap that was made up.

Have fun having no warranty because both of them will make you RMA 5-20 times to get a working product if it breaks.
