Seems  the company I bought it from has had several issues and they have promptly refunded me. If they get more complaints they are going to approach EVGA if they havent alrerady on safety and recallof defective items grounds.

I have to ask what is "fuinally" and "gettigng" in your Title "gettigng a refund fuinally."

and what exactly are you contributing in this post?

hopefully, we are all adults in here. No need to point out grammatical errors as long as one understands what the original poster means.

i'm honestly dissapointed at EVGA in regards to this fiasco. The card was not tested properly before retailing. Although i have a great record of customer service from EVGA thus far, this is not a matter of customer service. it's a matter of not enough QA on their behalf and also a design flaw in their ACX 3.0 design.

i'm honestly not confortable using my $649 sc gaming 1080 by updating it's bios + thermal pad installation. Why should i even do this when i've already spent over $600? Yes, they do offer replacement by EVGA doing the work for you. But still, there's a sour taste in my mouth currently. How do i even know that after applying both fixes the card will not act up in the long run?
i love evga and their products + customer service. however, i do feel like EVGA should do a complete recall in regards to ACX 3.0 cards.

Adequate Airflow also Offset this, Mine has no issue either
The thermals Pads are Free of Charge
They Give you a legit reason to open a card without Voiding the warranty
AND if the card Break in the process, They Still will accept it during an RMA
Whats better than this?
That's like Intel giving you the go to Delid and Remove the IHS to get rid of the stock paste and giving you the Liquid Metal Paste!

I got a refund as well.  My Best Buy took my 1070 SC back (was about 35 days past purchase).  Very frustrated by EVGA not only did I have multiple card issues - first the Micron memory then the VRM over heating concerns which then led to horrible coil whine thanks to the "bios" update read: fan curve increase - but I also got a dead out of the box EVGA PSU (both power tester dead and actually plugged in to 2 different machines to test dead) week before last as well.

All you long timers who have history and will go down with EVGA until the death and come back to them for their good customer support - more power to you and I get where you are on things.  But for me my time is money (time is money friend!) and I am glad I got out of this company's obviously awful QC as of late early on and with not a whole lot of extra time money or stress.  They tried to make things right by me when I reached out to them I give them that, but in the end the damage was done. Just wanted to post to share my experience and bid good riddance to EVGA. This good hard earned money to spend unhappy PC enthusiast consumer won't be back.

FWIW I pulled the trigger on a GTX 1080 Nvidia FE reference card.  Now this is the "wow blown away" Pascal experience I was looking and hoping for.  The GTX1080 is a different beast all together vs the 1070 no matter what version or model or company brand I get that but just sayin'....this  GTX 1080.  Wow!

That ^^ and EVGA is one of the few companies that allow the Cooler to be removed to put on a Water Block and maintain your Warranty.

A recall needs to be done. 100% of the cards require the VRM thermal pad modification as well as replacing the VRAM pads.
It really is amazing that EVGA did not do thermal spectrum analysis of any of these cards to diagnosis hot spots. They could have easily caught this disaster.

No - 100% of the cards do not require this.  EVGA stated that this is optional...optional does not mean required.

I have a 1080 FTW...without any mods...running great since July.  So...that's 1 card out...so not 100%

Oh the ignorance...What EVGA says is irrelevant. EVGA can not change the laws of physics.
VRAM thermal pads are not touching the ram chips - Proven
VRM are overheating to due ineffective design - Proven
100% of all cards use this design. - Proven

My card is running 100% great 24/7 folding for 4 months - Proven
The majority of people are overreacting - Proven (in my mind)
Trying to say anything other than "EVGA Sucks" and getting whomped on in any forum - Proven

If you have airflow, and things stay cool, you won't have any issues.  The "laws of physics" state this as well.

Listen - it's not in EVGA's best interest to try to "pull the wool" over the collective communities eyes, sit in a box, and ignore a problem.  The engineers say "things are within spec, but you can add these pads for extra comfort, but they are not required"...and this gets distorted into "the sky is falling and nothing works as all and EVGA design is faulty."

It's the same basic design they have been using for years...and those cards have held up well.

In the unlikely event that I have an issue with my card, EVGA has great customer service and will do right by me.

And...this is one more thread I am not going to monitor anymore (I don't know why I did in the first place to be honest...)

If you want to let your VRMs run at well over 110c+ and VRAM at 95c+ you are free to do so. Everyone else would like a unit with proper cooling and not have the components running at temperatures over their rated limit.

I'm hoping that based on a few of those laws of thermodynamics, the ACX 3.0 cooler on my 1080 FTW, and the pretty-warm air flowing out the 1080 card exhaust that I can keep those temps manageable.  I WILL say I hope that someday either nVidia or EVGA will see the benefit of incorporating thermal monitoring on things like VRM chips on the video cards.  I remember my EVGA X58-SLI mobo had it and those chips would be on "fy-ah"!

Who's to say your card isn't more prone to failure like the others without the modification?
Seems odd evga coins the term "optional", yet they have deemed the thermal pads important enough to install on every 1080 ftw card they manufacture from this point on.

I just bought a 1080ftw and I think I will be returning it for a 1080 hybrid, which at least seems to have proper vrm cooling.
