So my buddy gave me a Gigabyte RX460 he bought a week ago because it doesn't work and he doesn't want to fool with returning it, and he threw away the box before making sure it works. So what happens is simple, it artifacts in 2d, and is messy in 3d. It looks like the memory is deffective somehow. Any ideas anyone, I'd hate to just toss it, could it be repaired any ideas?

RMA it? If no warranty try baking it.

no warranty, what about updating the bios? it has an F30 bios not the F1, F2, or F3 bios that gigabyte states exists, so maybe a bad bios?

Maybe.

Gigabyte warranty goes off of S/N - so you should be able to RMA it that way unless there is damage.  Otherwise I don't see it being able to be repaired by a BIOS update - or baking for that matter...  TBH baking doesn't fix anything.

wrong, ive fixed many a cards with a good old fashioned bake, a 9800GX2, a GTX 285, a GTX 275, an 8800GTX, 8800GTS, and 8500GT all fixed @ 385F for 10 minutes

So Gigabyte approved the RMA, if i get back a working card should I use it inplace of my GTX 480 or sell it and try to get a better cpu than a core2 Quad

Good to know.  Any time I've ever tried I never put the temp up that high - probably why it never worked LOL.  What C2Q CPU are you running?
