When I bought my 1080 FTW it was advertised as being quiet. It was reviewed as being quiet. And until I updated the BIOS on it yesterday, because apparently it might burn out if I didn't, it was quiet. Now its not quiet. I am not running Furmark. I am simply playing Battlefield, and its distractedly loud. I paid a premium for a product that advertised its sound performance. That advertising is now false. 
 
I signed up for the pads, haven't gotten them yet, but would inserting them lower the temps and as such lower the fan?
 
If I RMA my card, would the replacement be quieter?
 
Can I get a different 1080 unit RMA'd that would be quiet? 

is it possible to just redownload the previous bios update and reflash it without the fan speed increase?

I thought of that, but I couldn't find any other BIOS for download besides the new one that jacks up the fan speed. I would do it if I could. I hadn't had any problems before.
 
Of course that would then put it at risk of a burn out or some such again.

Use GPUz to monitor your card so you can see the fan percentage and rpm. The fan shouldnt be significantly louder.

If you have MSI Afterburner or EVGA precision X, close them out while using GPUz to monitor. Please post a screen shot after so we can see what the fans are doing.

Some people are very sensitive to sound. Sounds like the OP is one of those people.

 
So I tried to post a screencap of the GPU-Z main page, as well as the point in the sensor log where it gets really loud. But since I am new I take it I cant post links?
 
Forum won't let me just attach the log either. Figured the log is better than just a screenshot of a single moment. I ran it while playing through a round of battlefield. I had it open on my second screen, and I was able to see when I started noticing it, and when it became an annoyance. At about 2000 RPMs, the noise of the fan starts to bleed into my headphones, at 2200 its tolerable but a bit much, at almost 2500 its full on distracting.
 
The gamer nexus piece shows the after BIOS update fan at 2200 RPMs, while mine is hitting almost 2500, is that the issue then.
 
The case should be well cooled, its a NZXT H440, with two Corsair 140mm fans added in, and a 140mm Noctua CPU cooler. Plenty of air flow (though fairly silent). Room temp is about 72F, and at this time of the year typically only gets lower than that.

I also updated the new BIOS and found it way too loud. After some searching I found a way to go back to the original BIOS.

You can google how to use NVFlash. I didn't encounter any problem, but use it at your own risk.

You guys could always set up a custom fan profile.  I'm sure it's easier then trying to revert back to an older bios.
