Hello. I am getting random gpu load drops with clocks drops in GTA V ( updated to 1.36 ).

Here is screen: ( open in new tab to see )

I added black arrows during drop to show. Both Clocks drops and gpu load drops for a fraction of second and turns back.

My pc: 6700K stock ( good temps )
16gb DDR4
Evga gtx ACX 1080 ( stock, good temps ) C
Corsair 750 RM
Asus Z170-P

I am on newest drivers . Windows 10 Anniversary. Fresh new system after format. No background programs. Only gpuz, fraps and game.
Windows power plan : balanced
Nvidia power plan: Optimal

Question. Why it dropping clocks during gpu load drops, is this normal when using optimal power?
Or something is wrong with pc?

Have you tried Windows power at max perf. and nvidia power at max perf. just for GTA V, in NVCP? For testing purposes?

At optimal the card will drop the clocks when not in use, maybe in some specific scenes the gpu usage isn't high enough to demand a full+boost clock speed, sometimes in cutscenes, loading screens or vsync on.

As long it's not affecting gaming performance i wouldn't worry about it. But if you feel like you're getting stuttering, fps drops, etc during gameplay then you can set to maximum performance inside Nvidia control panel, i had this problem with a specific old game and this fixed (i changed for the exe of the game, not in global settings). As for Windows power plan i always leave at high performance so i don't know how much the balanced plan affects in gaming but you could also try using high performance too.

Yes it happening during gameplay. Once of 2 hours of play i get that drops. So it was game related?

My 1070 down clocks during loading to 1594 base clock. Ramps up to 2101 boost clock once the gameplay starts again.

My 1070 was dropping way down in Crysis 2 in optimal mode. The fact that it was fine in Crysis 3, (A more difficult game for the card) led me to the conclusion that it was underclocking when the load would drop to a certain point. (To save power)

Once I selected "I prefer max performance" in Nvida control panel, no drops in any game.
