I am so disappointed by all this, I purchased a GTX FTW 1080 £700.... I also purchased a 1070 FTW for the laboratory within the research centre I work in and run 3D simulations. I now have to deal with this problem on multiple fronts.
 
Instead of offering me thermal pads which are not an ideal fix I should be offered the choice of receiving a free hybrid kit (I for one wouldn't mind the shipping cost for this extra piece of mind). I'm EU.
 
This seems like a much better solution to really place peoples mind at ease. I'm believe I may have to consider legal advice for this problem. I've spent £1100 on two products that I now have to modify with a solution I don’t have full confidence in and more over spend my time doing it... and yes I'm a computer scientist in the middle of my PhD, whilst I don't have a full mathematical grip on thermal dynamics my colleagues do.
 
This is simply wrong.
 
Edit: even if they offered a 30% discount for owners of affected cards, would restore my faith somewhat and I would def go for it. The hybrid kit solves the problem correctly.

You can RMA the cad and EVGA will do the thermal pad and VBIOS flash for you - which fixes the problem.
 
Additionally, doesn't the EU have very strong consumer protection laws? I remember folks there having the option for a 100% full refund within a fairly lengthy period of time. You can get your money back and then buy the Hybrid versions.

I understand what you're saying but I did pay for a working GTX 1080 and whilst the PCB works their cooling solution does not.
I'm not bashing EVGA and I think they handled the situation respectfully and fast without trying to brush anything under the carpet.

I don't believe their proposed solution is adequate for the problem they are trying to solve, so I have to disagree with you there.

We do indeed but I've had the card for around 8 weeks now iirc but it is something I will look into.

My FTW, the cooler makes no contact with Vram chips, the screws are tight. VRM is hot, no thermal pads.  It basically cools the gpu die. Meanwhile the hybrid kit has a plate for vram that is connected to the gpu plate. And VRM has radiator fins and a special plate under the fan. 
 
And honestly, I got the card in the summer. If my card is like that from the factory, im scared to RMA to get some recertified crap that has bad boost or is scratched or mishandled.

Yup, but I also see it from EVGA's point of view and they are I believe genuinely trying to help. None of our cards actually have a problem right now this second as such. If the cards blew up in a year they would replace it no problem I'd imagine. So they don't really have to do anything right now this second so kudos to them and I'm grateful.
 
I've already bought an extended warranty now which I wouldn't have normally done so there’s another £23 w/e that is in USD at the moment as a show of faith in EVGA from me and also piece of mind of course for me.
 
But I would have liked the option to buy a Hybrid kit perhaps at cost from them.

Yea I agree I was perhaps a little over zealous ^^

We deserve a decent cooling with temps and noise on par with other brands, we still have to buy the vram pads because for a lot of us they arent making contact at all.
free cross shipping and no money hold, i dont have another 500€ on my cc
and a new card, not a refurbished one
plus free extended warranty for all this headache and time they're making me lose for shipping, requests etc.


That is if they want to keep custumers, but it seems they dont :(

On a lighter note, one should consider taking a Sabbatical from their PhD studies for an internship at EVGA HQ.  It would provide a new perspective as well as make for a lovely summer holiday in California.

Of course not. If they do it for one customer, they'll have to do it for everyone. Talk about a poopstorm, lol. People could lie and get a free hybrid cooler. Not implying this about the OP at all just sayin'

I want to buy hybrid kit for my 1080 FTW but cannot cause it is not sold in Amazon or other shops.
